Another KenTal Earth Day celebration in the bag! Despite the somewhat gloomy skies, we had another good turnout of neighbors looking for free trees, native plant seeds, and pollinator seed balls, and every kid found something to do - painting birdhouses with ArtForm, a Heritage Tree scavenger hunt, an "evils of turf" temperature test, and... free ice cream! Thanks to all our sponsors, and thanks to the neighborhood for a good turnout.

Now, go out and plant those trees!

On your next walk or hike along the San Diego River, see if you can spot some Cedar Waxwings. These birds are highly social and move in flocks. They come to San Diego County in the winter and feed on fruits of trees and shrubs. What avian sightings have you seen lately? Let us know in the comment below!

Perhaps better to grow your own roses..."This fast-moving game of romantic commerce never stops. It’s also absurd: The race required to provide a mass-produced bit of nature — at any hour, in any place, for as little as $10 a dozen — contributes significantly to the destruction of nature itself.'

Every rose has its thorn.

"Planting Birds" - Planting California natives is the starting point for the web of life connected to our gardens.

Birds, in general, require resting, nesting, and food sources. In planning a garden with native plants the goal is to supply the needs of many local and migratory bird species.
