Las week we joined students from the UCSD Eighth College CCE 120 course for our latest Day Laborer Outreach. Together, we visited the Lemon Grove and Marketplace sites and distributed 80 care packages, the most we have distributed all year.

At the Lemon Grove site, we distributed 50 packages filled with socks, water, Gatorade, fruit, granola bars, reusable water bottles, earplugs, fruit snacks, and safety glasses. Students spent time speaking with laborers about their work experiences, how long they have lived in San Diego, and listening to their stories. Many shared that they hold degrees and certifications from their countries of origin, reminding us that immigrants bring valuable skills, education, and experience that often go unrecognized when credentials are not transferable across borders.

At the second Home Depot site, we noticed far fewer laborers than usual. Saturdays are typically among the busiest days, and laborers shared with us that ICE had recently been in the area and detained several Haitian workers. These raids continue to spread fear throughout working communities. With Temporary Protected Status for Haitians currently uncertain and under review by the U.S. Supreme Court, many families remain in limbo. Ending TPS would place countless people at risk of being returned to unsafe conditions. Just this month, on May 8th, gunfire was reported outside the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, underscoring the ongoing violence and instability many are fleeing.

We are grateful to the students who joined us in solidarity, conversation, and community care. If your school/group/organization would like to join us or find out what other educational opportunities are available please email contact our coordinator Ana Miguel at [email protected] today!

As an organization grounded in love, inclusion, and safety for all, we are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, to the worshippers and staff of the Islamic Center of San Diego, and to the broader Muslim community locally and beyond. Places of worship should always be spaces of peace, refuge, and belonging.

As an organization that supports shelters of all faiths, including a Muslim shelter in our network, we stand in solidarity with those affected. We condemn all forms of hate, discrimination, and targeted violence. Love and compassion must be stronger than fear and hatred. We recommit ourselves to fostering communities where everyone can feel safe, valued, and protected.

We also call on community leaders, public officials, and everyday citizens to unite against bigotry in all its forms and to work together to ensure tragedies like this never happen again.

On May 9, 2026, Border Angels and Borderlands Relief Collective completed a water drop in the Otay Mountains along our Teddy Bear Shrine Trail.

We began at 6:00 am, gathering in the Dunkin’ parking lot to load supplies, test radios, review safety protocols, and welcome our team. A total of 22 people joined the effort, including BRC members, safety monitors, returning volunteers, and first-time volunteers. By 6:30 am, we were on the trail.

At our first drop site, we replenished 10 waters, 20 electrolytes, 39 cans, and 3 packages. The second site showed little to no consumption, so we redirected supplies to the third drop. Before arriving, we paused to reflect on why we drop in this area and approached the site in silence to pay our respects. There, we found no cans, electrolytes, or packages remaining, but 68 waters were left untouched. We dropped 78 electrolytes, 81 cans, and 4 packages.

In total, we hiked about 8 miles, reached roughly 1,750 feet in elevation, and worked through temperatures in the low 80s.

Every drop is an act of care. Every step is taken with intention. Thank you to everyone who showed up with compassion and commitment to saving lives in the desert. If you’l like to help us keep going you fan donate to our Water Drop Wish List. If you would like to be notified for our upcoming Water Drop and other volunteer opportunities fill in our application. Through our Volviendo a Casa program, we recently supported a brother carrying unimaginable grief.

After being forced to flee Venezuela due to political persecution for speaking out and mentoring youth through baseball, two brothers began a journey in search of safety. While crossing the Rio Grande, one of the brothers, Juan David Pulido tragically drowned at just 26 years old, only days before his 27th birthday. He leaves behind two young children who have grown up without the chance to say goodbye.

For nearly four years, his remains were held due to complex identification procedures, legal barriers, financial hardship, and the ongoing crisis in Venezuela. Distance, limited flights, and unstable communication made reunification painfully slow.

Today, we are helping make that reunion possible. Through this program and the help of Grace Countryside Funeral Home, we are supporting his cremation and helping reunite the brothers. The goal is for his surviving brother to bring Juan David home to Venezuela, where his children, parents, and loved ones can finally lay him to rest with dignity.

Every family deserves the chance to say goodbye

Juan David Pulido, May he Rest in Peace.

On Friday, we gathered outside the Otay Mesa Detention Center to honor the mothers who are spending this Mother’s Day behind bars. 💐

The organizers Friends of Friendship Park, AFSC, Detention Resistance, as well as the other organizations present and so many incredible community members, we came together with one simple intention: to remind the mothers inside that they are not forgotten. That they are loved. That they matter.

We brought flowers as small symbols of care and dignity. A singer lent her powerful voice to the air outside those walls, lifting songs of hope that carried beyond the fences. Even when we were met with intimidation and threats from security, we stayed grounded in love. We stayed centered in purpose.

And because we did, the flowers were delivered.

We want every mother inside Otay Mesa and everywhere impacted by detention and separation that they are not alone and we will continue to stand with them.

Mothers belong with their families.

On May 2nd, Border Angels hosted our Día del Niño & Mother’s Day Caravan of Love at the inauguration of Comunidad de Luz in Tijuana alongside Psicologos sin Fronteras and Robert Vivar💐🎈

It was an honor to celebrate this new shelter space dedicated to serving migrant families while honoring the incredible mothers and children at its heart.

With 10 dedicated volunteers and the support of so many of you, we delivered bikes, toys, clothing, hygiene supplies, self-care items for moms, and food to families. Together we shared a joyful piñata celebration, painted a collaborative mural, colored with the kids, raffled bikes and toys, and distributed 26 personalized donation packages to mothers and children from Haiti, Mexico, Honduras, Sri Lanka, and Italy.

This day was about more than gifts, it was about connection, dignity, and reminding families that they are not alone.

Thank you to everyone who supported our donation drives, contributed to our fundraisers, and showed up in solidarity. Your generosity helped us turn compassion into action and make this beautiful inauguration celebration possible.
