We have spent the past few months building a committed local group, but it is imperative that we bring together as many members of the San Diego community as possible in pursuit of a single payer universal healthcare system.

Under single payer, a budget would be set aside for undocumented care, such as emergency services and public health. This way, coverage for these residents would not really impact the quality or costs of healthcare for others under the single payer plan, but they will still be able to access the healthcare they need in order to thrive within their communities.

AB 1690 - “The CalCare Spot Bill”

Introduced February 17, 2023 by California State Assembly Member Ash Kalra, AB 1690 is the next legislative step towards statewide single-payer universal healthcare (CalCare)!

This bill will facilitate conversations between healthcare advocates and legislators around single-payer policy. It will also give more time for the grassroots movement and organizational support for universal healthcare in California to grow, so that when the California Nurses Association works to reintroduce CalCare in 2024, they will not be denied!
