Introducing our Founder, Parker Pike. 💛
In September of 1998 over 100 nonprofit leaders gathered in the training facility of the center.
The inspiration and need for the conference came out of frustration from corporate leaders such as from and . She met Parker Pike in early 1998 and expressed her company's concern that too many nonprofits did not know how to best present their story, their impact and their outcomes when presenting funding proposals.
The Cause Marketing Conference, with as the fiscal agent and engine that provided volunteers, marketing outreach and media connections.
In 2011 the event was renamed the Cause Conference to reflect a wider need in the social sector to go beyond just marketing best practices and embrace many other business management skills.
This also established that both nonprofits and for-profits are businesses, and the many topics presented at the conference applied to all organizations.
Fast forward to 2020, COVID-19 hit and the Cause Conference pivoted. The AMA gave Parker the rights to find a new host and fiscal agent for future Cause Conferences.
A few weeks later, and by good fortune, Parker attended the annual Partner event for SD Social Venture Partners and met Jennifer Barnes, CEO of . Jennifer also held a board position with the in San Diego which has just opened their event and networking space . Our local embraced the event to help companies learn more about social impact. Larry Kesslin, our Chief Connector, was the Partnership Ambassador for the BBB and knew a wide circle of executives and senior leaders in the region. A collaboration was born and new resources infused into the Cause Conference. The stage was set for building a new vision for the Cause Conference the coming year and future.
This became Cause San Diego.
During the past 24 years, over 7,200 executives have attended the Cause Conference and have been inspired by nearly 1,000 speakers.
