THEY'RE DONE!

Just minutes ago, Micky Dymond and Jeff Ward arrived in Durango, Colorado, 2 days, and 36 minutes after they pedaled away from Oceanside, California.

The two had a goal of breaking the existing 2-man age 60-69 record of 17.51 mph set in 2016 by Team San Diego Sports Medicine, and were on track for much of the race until yesterday's headwinds, and this morning's stomach issues that plagued Ward slowed their progress.

While their arrival time on the RAAM Leaderboard calculates to 17.75 mph, it doesn't account for the 53 minutes that gets added to their time for the shuttle through Oak Creek Canyon past Sedona.

Oak Creek Canyon had been part of the route for years, but in response to increased tourist traffic on that narrow winding road race officials decided that instead of riding that portion, the racers get loaded into their support vehicles to be driven through that 20-mile section. They then add 53 minutes to the racers' times to even out the speed advantage.

With the 53 minutes added, their corrected time is 2 days, 1 hour and 29 minutes, for an average speed of 17.44 mph -- a smidge slower than the 17.51 record. So close!

But it was still an impressive ride and a valiant effort. Congratulations to these two Legends of Motocross, Supercross, SuperMoto, and UltraCycling, and to their fantastic crew who sheparded them for 862 miles.

And don't forget, their Race Across the West effort is a fund-raiser for Road 2 Recovery, a great organization that helps injured motocross racers and other extreme athletes. Support the cause AND possibly win a Specialized Bicycles bike. Click here: https://4agc.com/donate/raaw

A RECORD RIDE IN THE BREAKING...

June 18, 2026
8:10 am Pacific Time

Yesterday was a challenging, yet very inspiring day for Jeff Ward, and Micky Dymond. They faced another day of 100F-degree heat, with some challenging climb, including Yarnell Grade and Mt. Mingus.

They also had some fun. On the winding descent into the historic mining town of Jerome, one of the support vehicle drivers found it quite challenging to keep the former SuperMoto champion in sight. That crew member had clocked Wardy at 57mph the previous day on the descent into Borrego Springs, but didn’t get a speed on Micky into Jerome, “I don’t know fast he was going because we couldn’t stay near him!” Yeah, top level racers like Micky and Wardy have a different perspective on the concept of speed.

To keep them on track toward breaking the existing 2-person age 60-69 record, the crew has target times for each time station. Yesterday they were at times as much as 90 minutes ahead of schedule. The cumulative miles, and yesterday’s strong cross winds have slowed them a bit. Shortly after enjoying a glorious sunrise in Monument Valley, they reached Mexican Hat, Utah just a few minutes shy of their target time. They still have a bit of a safety cushion, but they need to keep pushing.

The record is 17.51 mph hour. The boys are currently between Montezuma Creek, Utah, and Cortez, Colorado with about 65 miles to go to the finish. As of now, their average speed since Oceanside is 18.21 mph. There are some climbs ahead, but there are also some super-fast descents. The next few hours are going to be fun to watch!
