Yesterday, the Islamic Center of San Diego suffered a horrific attack on their community members. Our hearts are with the victims, their families and loved ones, and all who are impacted by this tragedy. The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum stands in solidarity with the Muslim community of San Diego.

There is no place for Islamophobia in our society, and we believe in combating hate-based violence through unity and allyship across cultures, faiths, and identities.

To offer support for those affected, we encourage our community to visit the Islamic Center of San Diego’s website and social media.

🐲🚣‍♀️ Ever wanted to know what it feels like to paddle in a dragon boat race?

There’s nothing more exhilarating than lining up at the starting line, raising your paddles, and hearing that air horn sound the start of an all-out sprint to the finish line. On May 16th, the SDCHM’s Musing Dragons team felt this feeling thrice at the 19th Annual San Diego Dragon Boat Festival.

Yesterday on May 16th, the SDCHM’s very own “Musing Dragons” racing team paddled their hearts out in the 19th Annual San Diego Dragon Boat Festival!

Friends, family, and attendees cheered for our 10 paddler + drummer team as we raced 250 meters across Tecolote Shores in Mission Bay. Alongside the racers were vendors, cultural performers, and guest speakers who helped make the festival so much more vibrant and exciting!

Thank you to the San Diego Dragon Boat Festival and SD Alliance for APIAs for putting on the festival. Special thanks to the team captain Julianna Chang for leading the Musing Dragons and to our friends and volunteers who helped keep the tent area comfortable and stocked with delicious food!

We’ll see you on the shoreline next year!

Another year, another Spring Banquet! 🌸🍽️

On April 19th, the SDCHM celebrated its 30th anniversary with friends, family, and members of the San Diego Chinese-American and multicultural community. We were honored to welcome District 1 County Supervisor Paloma Aguirre and District 2 County Supervisor Joel Anderson, who presented us with a proclamation declaring April 19th “San Diego Chinese Historical Museum Day.” We were also honored to receive Council President Pro Tem Kent Lee’s proclamation declaring April 19th “San Diego Chinese Historical Museum 30th Anniversary Day.”

Our programming included phenomenal musical and dance performances by the Lucky Lion Dancers, the Butterfly Ode Dancing Group, Yu Ye, Run-Tong Wang, Yao-Hong Wu, and Lu Liu.

Reflecting on 30 years of community service and education, we are proud of our work to build a space celebrating the Chinese-American community and its history in San Diego. Here’s to another 30 years and more!

Thank you to the Jasmine Seafood Restaurant for hosting and catering the banquet with delicious Chinese dishes. Thank you to Robin Liang and the Falcon History Club for providing these photos. And a special thank you to everyone who came and attended the event, as well as our incredible staff and volunteers who made this banquet possible!
