Please help us welcome another SkillBridge Fellow to our team, Tom!
Tom will be focusing on the climbing side of our program - working with our guides to learn what it’s like to be a guide.
A little bit about Tom: “I come from Maine and am an intelligence analyst in the Army. I thrive on outdoor adventures, but I also like cooking and playing the handpan.
Sport climbing has been a big part of my life for around 3.5 years and I have been learning trad climbing for about 1.5 years now. My favorite style has become long multi-pitch crack climbing, but I still struggle with the technique. In addition, I practice mountaineering, very easy alpine routes, and a little ice climbing when possible. The hardest sport grade I’ve sent was 6b+ (5.11a) but mostly I am still in the 5.10 range. I have had the great fortune to climb in ME, CO, UT, WA, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey (but not yet in CA). If possible, I would like to take a SPI course/exam during the internship. Otherwise, I plan to take courses at the American Alpine Institute later in the year and will complete it then.”
