Please help us welcome another SkillBridge Fellow to our team, Tom!

Tom will be focusing on the climbing side of our program - working with our guides to learn what it’s like to be a guide.

A little bit about Tom: “I come from Maine and am an intelligence analyst in the Army. I thrive on outdoor adventures, but I also like cooking and playing the handpan.

Sport climbing has been a big part of my life for around 3.5 years and I have been learning trad climbing for about 1.5 years now. My favorite style has become long multi-pitch crack climbing, but I still struggle with the technique. In addition, I practice mountaineering, very easy alpine routes, and a little ice climbing when possible. The hardest sport grade I’ve sent was 6b+ (5.11a) but mostly I am still in the 5.10 range. I have had the great fortune to climb in ME, CO, UT, WA, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey (but not yet in CA). If possible, I would like to take a SPI course/exam during the internship. Otherwise, I plan to take courses at the American Alpine Institute later in the year and will complete it then.”

Hey all!

These announcement posts aren’t as fun as a series of photos and videos from a rock climbing clinic, but these ones are quite important for us so we have to get them in here every once and a while.

25 members we have! We started this opportunity in March 2025 and 25 people came to support and aid our mission of bringing veterans and military members outdoors for climbing and community! We’re so grateful - for the members and the member supporters and we’re always on the look out for more companies to connect our members with.

Membership opportunities are available on a different tier system and there’s more benefits listed on our website as well so please give us a look if you haven’t already! There’s a link in our bio for your convenience.

Our members alone are close to covering two free to participate clinics - that’s a huge impact! The more support the more clinics! Thanks all.

We thought it was time for another family and friends clinic! Remember the rules - each veteran and military member can bring one guest for free. Be sure your guests signs up for the clinic to secure their spot!

We also have a social and a leading trad clinic. Crux Members get an email a day ahead letting them know clinics are posted so don’t sit on the openings - they’re already getting scooped up!

Have a good one, all!

Thank you for the words and the trust, Amy!

Full Review - “Going into Crux I was nervous in a way I hadn’t been in a long time. Coming off a big surgery, preparing for retirement and a fear of heights, the idea of climbing really scared me. But at the same time, I was ready for something different that would help push me past my internal struggles and grow into my new chapter. Crux did exactly that. It wasn’t about being fearless, it was about showing up. Luke (Guide) was incredibly supportive and patient, knowing when to push me further or just give me time to work through what was going on in my head. I walked away from my first climb feeling like I just opened a new door in my life. I have since been to 3 climbing clinics and each one introduced me to amazing and supportive people who meet you where you are at! I also appreciate that Crux offers a Skillbridge opportunity that I have also taken advantage of. Not only does Crux offer healthy outlets for active duty and veterans, they provide an opportunity for service members transitioning out of the military to find new purpose, confidence, and direction. Whether a seasoned climber, trying it for the first or looking for a new purpose, Crux provides an environment where you can do all of the above! Thank you to the entire Crux team for your tireless support and for providing such an awesome and meaningful outlet for active duty and veterans!”

It was a back to back clinic weekend!

We want to thank our Crux Members - 25 members strong and growing. Your financial support each month contributes to veterans and military members getting outdoors climbing together! Sharing knowledge, learning from our guides, supporting one another. The cool thing is - so it seems - members support because they’ve either experienced first hand the benefits climbing has brought to their own lives and or they believe and trust in our mission and goals and either way - we’re so thankful for it!

We also want to thanks .oneill with LeaderOne Financial. Garrett supports one clinic a month for our veterans and military members. This month that climb was a beautiful sunny day in Joshua Tree with a couple of climbers! Garrett is supporting us all the way from Chicago - personally knowing Crux’s history and beginning - we thank you Garrett for trusting that your contribution is put to good use!

If you’re in need of mortgage support .oneill has you there. Near and far - you don’t need to be local to work with Garrett. You can find his contact in his bio!

One more January clinic to go!

Based only on visual aesthetics - what’s your favorite spot to climb?

These photos all being from Joshua Tree, CA. - we’re not say that’s a collective team answer - but it’s certainly not a bad answer.

2025 recap as one does - what an exciting year of growth.

We did a coffee meet up and run for our 6th year as an organization, we held our first climbing competition which was so fun to watch everyone charge for 24hrs of climbing, we worked with 6 SkillBridge fellows, did more community engagements like trail cleans, we’re one step closer to being able to train and certify guides, we made new partnerships and sponsors, created a membership opportunity.

We supported 192 veterans and military members, we met 54 new clients, we offered 43 free to participate rock climbing clinics, and 6 private trips.

We’re looking forward to seeing what’s around the corner in 2026 and we’re thankful to have you with us. Thank you to everyone who has been apart of this year: board members, guides, climbers, donors, sponsors, social media sharers, people that wear our merch, people that talk about the org to their friends and families, other orgs supporting veterans and military members - y’all are motivating.

Oh and special thanks to the climbers who have snapped photos along the way - our visual game has never looked so good :)
