A heartfelt Thank You!
In 2010 we began the journey of fundraising for ALS. “Running for those who Can’t” became our slogan.
My mom Helen passed from ALS in December 2008 only after being diagnosed 15 months prior. It is an unforgiving disease.
We watched her mobility go from a cane, to walker, to push wheelchair, to a motorized wheelchair in just 3.5 months.
We were fortunate at the time that our Insurance picked up the bulk of the expenses for equipment needs as she progressed, but not all patients have that luxury. It is why we created Helen’s Closet.org, a non-profit organization that provides equipment needs for those suffering from ALS.
Then came the Annual Thank You Run, a community event created to honor my mom, support our ALS community by raising funds to fill Helen’s Closet through the ALS Association of Greater San Diego Chapter.
We picked Thanksgiving Day as it is a Day to give thanks and be grateful for our families and one of my mom’s favorite holidays as its the first of the Holiday season she got to have all her family together and cook for all of us and her grandkids.
This is the first year in 13 years we were not surrounded by our community, volunteers, family and friends at the Annual Thank You Run. I wanted to thank all of you for the fond memories over the years. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
