CalFresh is California’s version of SNAP, helping individuals and families across our region access nutritious food and stretch their grocery budgets.

During SNAP Week of Action, August 17–21, the San Diego Food Bank is joining the Food Research & Action Center and advocates nationwide in raising awareness about the importance of protecting and strengthening SNAP.

Programs like CalFresh are a critical part of the fight against hunger. When SNAP is weakened, the impact is felt by families, communities and local economies, and food banks and charitable organizations cannot fill the gap alone.

We encourage our community to speak up and urge Congress to protect and invest in SNAP so our neighbors can continue accessing the food and resources they need.

We’re proud to be named one of the 2026 Best Places to Work in San Diego by the San Diego Business Journal!

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank ranked No. 28 among medium companies (50–149 employees). Of the organizations honored in that category, only one other nonprofit ranked ahead of the Food Bank.

This recognition reflects the incredible people behind our mission. Every day, our team brings passion, compassion and dedication to the work of fighting hunger and feeding hope across San Diego County.

We’re grateful to our employees for making the Food Bank a meaningful and rewarding place to work. This recognition belongs to all of you!

The need for food assistance in San Diego isn’t going away, and meeting that need takes all of us.

As changes to CalFresh continue to impact our community, more of our neighbors are turning to food banks and community partners for support, with some of our nonprofit partners reporting increases in demand of up to 20%.

Together, we can help ensure families have access to the food they need while navigating rising costs and changes to their benefits.

Behind every full plate, there's a partner standing strong.

This month, we're spotlighting Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego, a partner whose heart for kids and families helps bring nutritious food into the places where they play, learn, and grow.

Because of partners like them, more neighbors have access to the meals they need, when they need them most.

Thank you to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego team for being an essential part of our mission to fight hunger and feed hope.

Every partnership plants hope. Every meal helps it grow.

Many San Diego County households continue to be affected by changes to CalFresh. In partnership with the County of San Diego - Government, Live Well San Diego, and Feeding San Diego, we're expanding free food distributions at six community locations beginning August 8.

Community members can receive free fresh produce and dry goods, and County staff will be on-site to help connect individuals and families with available programs and resources.

Help us spread the word by sharing this post so more neighbors know about this valuable community resource. đź’š

The San Diego Food Bank was voted Best Charity in the 2026 San Diego's Best Union-Tribune Readers Poll.

As the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County, backed by four-star Charity Navigator and Platinum Candid ratings, this recognition reflects the trust our community has placed in us. But this honor belongs to you: our donors, volunteers, and partners who make this work possible every day.

Thank you for powering our mission to fight hunger and feed hope.

And to the The San Diego Union-Tribune and everyone who voted for us, thank you for this incredible honor!

For 20 years, the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program has helped ensure children across San Diego County have access to nutritious food over the weekends, so they can return to school ready to learn and thrive.

What began as an idea to serve 100 children has grown into a program that now provides weekend backpacks of food to 4,000 children every weekend.

As we look back through these moments, we're reminded that every backpack packed represents a child, a family, and a community that cares.

This milestone belongs to the volunteers, donors, school partners, and supporters who have made the program possible over the past two decades. Your generosity has helped nourish children and create brighter futures for thousands of local students.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we're building a stronger, healthier, and hunger-free San Diego 💚🍏
