At this year’s BioProcess International US West conference, BCLA hosted a panel discussion titled Charting Your Path in Biotech: Early Career Insights and Strategies at the San Diego Convention Center.

Moderated by Surbhi Dhar, Director of Life Science Search at RBW Consulting, the panel featured our incredible alumni—Sonia Setayesh, Mahta Barekatain, Angel Gonzalez, Xiaoya Ma, Justin Overhulse, and Hannah Ponce—who shared personal experiences about breaking into biotech, from navigating career pivots to building confidence beyond the lab.

BCLA Consulting is thrilled to share a case study showcasing our work in helping a client successfully commercialize their crosslinking technology. These chemical compounds are powerful tools that enable precise interactions between biomolecules. They are extremely versatile and utilized in a variety of applications ranging from basic research to therapeutics.

In this case study, BCLA consulting:
1) Identified over 29,000 patent filings to determine intellectual property risks, market trends and competitors in the space
2) Evaluated the product market potential by surveying the current market, key competitors, product portfolios and revenue
3) Created a strategy report for successful commercialization of the company’s product, featuring opportunities for product integration, manufacturing and distribution as well as potential regulatory hurdles and concerns

We greatly enjoyed the insights and the learning experiences from this project and thank all our former clients, who have contributed to our mission towards strengthening the biotech community and providing career development opportunities for our graduate student consultants. 👏

On November 19th, BCLA hosted its 2nd annual Celebrating Diversity in STEM event, Intersectionality in Entrepreneurship, at UCLA. The event spotlighted how gender, race, and other identities shape entrepreneurial journeys, particularly for underrepresented founders.

Denise N. Bronner, Ph.D., CEO of Empactful Ventures, LLC, delivered a powerful keynote on her transition from academia to entrepreneurship and her mission to integrate empathy and health equity into business. Her insights on systemic funding disparities and the importance of alternative funding models resonated deeply.

A dynamic panel discussion followed, featuring founders and leaders from biotech and health tech, who shared strategies for fostering inclusion and navigating entrepreneurial challenges. From diversifying mindsets to seeking values-aligned investors, the conversation offered actionable advice for building equitable ecosystems.
