🎗️ September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️

When Colton was just 14 months old, he was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood cancer.

Throughout his treatment, he received more than 60 blood and platelet transfusions, underwent a bone marrow transplant, and faced challenges no child should ever have to endure. Today, Colton is in remission and thriving, creating new memories with his family and embracing every adventure.

His story is a powerful reminder that blood donors provide more than a donation. They provide hope, healing, and precious time. This Blood Cancer Awareness Month, join us in honoring survivors like Colton and the donors who help make stories like his possible.

On September 11, 2001, lines wrapped around our Upas Street headquarters. More than 3,000 San Diegans donated that week, and 380 units flown by the U.S. Navy were among the first to reach New York.

Twenty-five years later, this day reminds us why we exist. San Diego Blood Bank was founded on September 11, 1950, to serve this community—and patients need blood not just today, but every day.

In remembrance of those we lost and in service of the patients who count on us, we continue to serve San Diego and stand ready to help communities across the country. ❤️🤍💙

Meet Brianna. Diagnosed with sickle cell anemia at birth, Brianna received multiple blood transfusions as part of her treatment and continues to rely on transfusions to help manage her condition. Thanks to the generosity of blood donors, Brianna can focus on the things she loves most, including playing the oboe, creating art, and living a full and active life.

For many people living with sickle cell disease, blood transfusions are not a one-time treatment. They are an ongoing lifeline that helps reduce complications and improve quality of life. Every blood donation has the power to make a difference for patients like Brianna.

This Sickle Cell Awareness Month, join us in raising awareness, celebrating the strength of sickle cell warriors, and thanking the blood donors whose generosity helps make stories like Brianna's possible. ❤️
