Meet 3-year-old Ailani, who recently met the woman who gave her a second chance at life: her living liver donor. 💙

Born with Alagille Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that was slowly damaging her liver, Ailani spent years undergoing treatments, hospital stays & procedures. As her condition worsened, she struggled to gain weight, needed a feeding tube & endured constant itching that made it difficult to sleep, eat & play.

Then came the call her family had been hoping for: a living donor had been found.

That donor was Ann, whose extraordinary generosity has changed more than one life. After previously donating a kidney to a friend in need, Ann stepped forward once again to help a stranger—becoming a living liver donor for Ailani.

Recently, Ailani and Ann came together with their families & care teams to ring the bell & celebrate the gift that forever changed their lives.

Following a successful transplant at Rady Children’s, Ailani is now thriving. She spends her days running, dancing, playing dress-up & keeping up with her siblings. 🤸‍♂️🌟

We had an unforgettable day at the Walkabout at SeaWorld! 🐙🪼

A huge thank you to our walkers, dedicated fundraisers & sponsors. Because of you, we raised vital funds to support our Patient Experience Program, a powerful initiative that brings comfort & joy to children in the hospital through toys, books, art, music, Resident Canine Therapy & Child Life Services. 💙

The fair came to us! 🎡✨From jugglers and giant butterflies to face painting and games, our River Walk transformed into a mini fairground—thanks to San Diego County Fair. 🌟 This fun-filled day offered a sense of normalcy and brought a bit of magic to our patients receiving care and their families. 💙

When Zoe was diagnosed, her & her family found hope at Rady Children’s. After years of chemotherapy, extended hospital stays, procedures & uncertainty, Zoe is officially in remission! 🥳

Recently, she had a dream-come-true moment singing on stage with Jon Foreman at the Switchfoot Bro-Am 🎤🎶

A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit our patient experience programs, like music therapy, which provide vital emotional, physical & social support to young patients during treatment. 💙

A routine ultrasound at 16 led to an unexpected diagnosis: polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a genetic condition that requires lifelong monitoring & currently has no cure. But Gavin isn't letting his diagnosis define him. In fact, he's already using his voice to make a difference. 👏

With the support of the PKD team at Rady Children's, Gavin is learning how to manage his condition while continuing to look toward the future. His unexpected diagnosis has helped him find a new purpose in advocating for others living with PKD.

This year, he traveled to Washington D.C., where he shared his story with lawmakers & advocated for increased research funding & support for organ donors. Along the way, he's also found a new community. Through the PKD Foundation & Rady Children's PKD Center of Excellence, Gavin has connected with other young people living with PKD & found hope in knowing he's not alone.

With the right support, children can continue to dream boldly, pursue their goals & make a real impact on the world around them. 💙

At 16 weeks pregnant, Alexia learned her daughter, Lynnlee, had a rare condition called an omphalocele, meaning her abdominal organs were developing outside of her body. Doctors also found a hole in Lynnlee's heart. ❤️‍🩹

What followed was a pregnancy filled with appointments & close monitoring.

After birth, Lynnlee was immediately transferred to Rady Children's, where she spent the first 13 months of her life in the NICU. Her journey included respiratory support, a tracheostomy, feeding interventions & a series of complex surgical procedures to gradually return her organs to her abdomen while carefully managing the impact on her developing lungs.

Today, Lynnlee is 2½ years old & has been home for more than a year. While she still requires ongoing medical support, she's walking, learning sign language & embracing all the curiosity that comes with being a toddler.

Lynnlee’s journey reflects what it can look like when highly specialized, multidisciplinary care supports children through complex medical needs—one milestone at a time. 💙
