As we approach another year of the Black Worker Center’s work, we gather not just to celebrate, but to hold space. In a time marked by political violence, economic instability, and collective grief, many of us are moving through our days feeling numb, overwhelmed, or disconnected from our sense of purpose.

Join us Wednesday February 26th for an intentional evening for Black workers and community members to pause, reflect, and name what is happening in our world and how it is impacting our bodies, our families, and our ability to move through everyday life.

We are thrilled to announce our keynote speaker for the 3rd Annual Black in Front Summit — Maurice Mitchell!

RSVP today: https://secure.everyaction.com/wkk3qUrGXUWmBuwMoQiY4w2

Maurice is a nationally recognized political strategist and visionary leader in the Movement for Black Lives. Raised by Caribbean working-class parents, he began organizing as a teenager and never stopped. After leading several grassroots advocacy organizations in his home state, Maurice directed the NY State Civic Engagement Table and, in the wake of the police murder of Mike Brown, relocated to Ferguson to help build the Movement for Black Lives.

He went on to co-found and lead Blackbird, a movement anchor organization, and played a key role in organizing the 2015 Movement for Black Lives convention in Cleveland. In 2018, Maurice became the National Director of the Working Families Party, where he continues to apply his passion and experience to make WFP the political home for a multi-racial working-class movement.

Juneteenth commemorates the day the last enslaved people under chattel slavery were informed of their freedom, as Union troops arrived to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. However slavery is still legal in the United States today, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery "except as punishment for a crime", a clause that has been used to justify forced labor in prisons.

Currently, 2 million people are currently incarcerated in the US
& Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly
five times the rate of white Americans.

Honoring Juneteenth means recognizing that the struggle for Black worker justice continues and includes those still enduring slavery today.
