One year ago on Christmas Day, the surf at T-Street turned from celebration to urgency. A community moved as one, pulling Olivier Eustache from the water. On the sand, San Clemente lifeguards fought for life, hands steady, hearts racing—bringing him back from a moment where there was no pulse, no breath, only hope.

Days later, the call came: Olivier was recovering. Relief gave way to gratitude. Then came the hugs—Olivier, his wife, his son, his daughter—each embrace a reminder of why we do this work.

This Christmas, he returned.

Olivier visited the San Clemente Lifeguards with his family and friends, carrying the same warmth and charm that stayed with us from that day. He shared a simple but beautiful gift: Chocolat Première Communion a chocolate soup and croissants, served in celebration of life, community, and second chances. What once felt impossible now felt surreal—rescuers and rescued gathered together, smiling, laughing, remembering.

One of our seasonal lifeguards quietly said he was overwhelmed with emotion. Miracles tend to do that.

Merry Christmas, San Clemente. We love our job, and we love serving this community.

Alex Higginson will be traveling to Tweed Heads, New South Wales, Australia to continue her lifeguarding career during the Australian summer season with the Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS). She departs on Tuesday, the 18th, aligning with our off-season but perfectly timed for Australia’s peak summer months.

Alex is looking forward to broadening her experience by learning different perspectives and approaches to open-water lifeguarding. She is also excited to train in Australia’s renowned lifesaving sport culture and bring that knowledge back to our team.

Beyond the skills and training, Alex carries a spirit of adventure. Lifeguards often looks out toward the horizon, drawn to the meeting place of sky and sea. It’s where we find new purpose—seeking fresh challenges, new waters, and the stories that only the ocean can write.

Incident Report – CPR Rescue
Date: August 8, 2025
Location: Lifeguard Tower 4

Yesterday afternoon, at Lifeguard Tower 4, a water-related incident occurred involving a beachgoer who reportedly went over the falls, struck the sea floor, and was rendered unconscious.

Lifeguards on scene responded immediately, extracting the victim from the water with assistance from the victims loved ones. CPR was initiated, and with assistance from the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), a pulse was successfully regained. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) provided support to the victim’s loved ones.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim, their family, and all who were involved in today’s rescue. We commend the quick actions and teamwork of the lifeguards, OCFA, and OCSD in responding to this critical incident. 🙏
