A massive, emotional congratulations to Aidan and Gabe from Mike’s class on their graduation today!

Watching these two blossom from the young boys who first started out at WINGS into the incredible, confident young men they are today is exactly what our school is all about. This is the heart of WINGS: the patience, the hard-fought struggles, the deep bonds of trust, and the beautiful triumphs that follow.

To Aidan and Gabe: We are so incredibly lucky to have been on this journey with you. Change may be ahead, but you will always be a part of the WINGS family. We are so proud of everything you’ve accomplished! 💙

As we head towards the end of the school year, we are all feeling a little restless and so excited for the relaxing days of summer! ☀️🕶️

To help channel that energy, we are really focusing on movement and being present in our bodies. Our yoga class has been an absolute hit with the students! It is such a fun way to break up the day, release some extra energy, and practice a little mindfulness before the final bell rings. 🧘‍♀️✨

Mike’s class recently visited The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco for a fantastic hands-on learning experience.

Outings like this are a great opportunity for students to practice focus, visual tracking, and fine motor skills in a new environment. Our tour guide started with a short lesson on the history of Disney character drawing, breaking down how simple shapes come together to build complex illustrations. Afterward, the students applied those concepts by either drawing a train from scratch or working on coloring one in.

It was great to see the students stay completely dialed in and engaged for the full 30-minute session. Huge thanks to Mike for coordinating all the details, and to the museum staff for being so accommodating and welcoming to our group! 🚂🎨

OT Life Lately! 🧩✨
Leave it to our amazing team, Elisse and Sammy, to repurpose our fundraiser decorations into a fun, interactive sensory experience!

Our students have been working incredibly hard on some big milestones lately:
✂️ Fine Motor Mastery: Sharpening hand strength and precision scissor skills.
🧘 Mind & Body Balance: Sneaking in some student yoga poses for core stability and mindfulness.
⚖️ Motor Planning: Balancing on a BOSU ball while matching takes serious skill!
💪 Upper Body Strength: Building shoulder stability and practicing crossing the midline.

Therapy is hard work, but Elisse and Sammy always make it feel like pure play. So proud of our kids crushing their goals! 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Enchanted Evening fundraiser. Because of you, our new van is officially part of the team!

🏆 Congratulations to Kevin Skidmore!
We are so proud to announce that our very own Kevin Skidmore has received the Larry Mobley Special Education Teacher of the Year Award from the Rotary Club of San Bruno! 🎖️

Kevin has been a pillar at WINGS for nearly 10 years. Teaching our transition class - moving students from high school into young adulthood- requires a rare and specific skill set. It’s a delicate balance of providing support while fostering the independence needed for the future. Kevin’s dedication to this program and his students is unmatched.

In this field, there are things you just can’t teach. It takes a level of empathy, compassion, and patience that you either have or you don’t. Kevin’s amazing energy comes from caring so deeply for his students; he brings a heart and soul to the classroom that defines what it means to be a great educator.

What makes Kevin so impactful:
* Authentic Connection: Whether he’s in his signature Converse, jeans, and a backwards hat, or cheering on Ohio State, his genuine personality helps him build real relationships and break down barriers. 🌰
* Respect & Dignity: Kevin treats his students like the young adults they are. He never talks down to them, and that foundation of respect makes a massive difference in how our students see themselves.
* Community Partnership: His impact reaches far beyond the classroom, building deep connections with students, families, and the entire WINGS community.
