Some other things you should know about emperor penguins:

✔️ They have the BEST waddle
✔️ Emperors are appropriately named as they are indeed kings! They are the largest of all penguin species
✔️ These girthy birds are endemic to Antarctica
✔️ They can stay underwater for up to 30 minutes and can dive to depths of just past 1,700 feet

In 2022, we listed the emperor penguin as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act. The impact of climate change on sea-ice habitat is the primary threat. We’re working with partners across the globe to help protect imperiled wildlife, like the emperor penguins.
