When Our Tax Dollars Hit the Spot! đź’°

We are so proud of the new workforce development building at San Bernardino Valley College. It was built by local community members, which promotes a local hire culture.

This building represents sustainability not only for the present but also for our future. Our tax dollars have helped fund this project. We are now focusing on both today’s generation and future generations.

We are proud of San Bernardino Valley Community College. It invests in our people and truly embodies the principle of “for the people, by the people.” This facility will train students in green technology, computer numerical control, water supply technology, electricity and electronics and so much more, is not only for students who move to our city but also for those who are from here and wish to live, work, and play in San Bernardino.

This facility will help bring an inclusive economy that supports all generations and the working class, as well as the middle class. Thank you to San Bernardino Valley College and everyone involved in making this development a reality.

Why CBAs?
A Community Benefits Agreement or CBA is a legally binding agreement between developers and coalitions of community organizations that addresses a broad range of community needs.

We see CBA’s as a tool to shift large economic development to reflect the communities’ needs. Projects like that at the Carousel Mall site and the San Bernardino International Airport which currently have left the community out of decision making leading to possible housing displacement, development plans that don’t include environmental benefits, and project plans that don’t provide local hire and training to build a sustainable local economy.

Just SB’s Mission
Just San Bernardino’s mission is to foster an inclusive economy within the city of San Bernardino through economic mobility strategies such as Community Benefit Agreements (CBAs), housing, purposeful career pathways within the school district, and land acquisition. These priorities guide our efforts to build a thriving and resilient community with access to prosperity.

The San Bernardino: Community, Housing and Justice Block Party provide a variety of housing resources for those on the verge of homelessness to folks facing barriers to re-entry into society.

Thank you for all who showed up to provide services to the community of SB, love you and keep up the great work! ❤️

Only together can we shift the unjust systems that keep people from being housed. One of the biggest things we heard from advocates is that elected officials need to better understand the paradigm of homelessness and work to introduce policies that cut barriers to housing, other supportive resources for mental health, and track the data better to bring more federal and state resources into our community.

In our earlier conversations with the city of San Bernardino’s economic department, we lifted the need for our city to go after grants for beautification projects, for our small local businesses and community spaces. We are so happy to see that our city is now working on these grant initiatives. We love to see it and hope that many local businesses and community spaces take advantage of this opportunity.

Make sure to apply when it opens on August 26th at 9:00 AM. Link on our link.tree at buff.ly/3Xg6bnz.
