Missing subject in Big Bear has been located.

This was a major multidisciplinary operation. Many of our sister county teams responded, joined by teams from across Southern California who travelled here to support our community.

We’re grateful our SBSTAR K9 Storm had the opportunity to support this mission alongside SBCSD LE partners K9 Boots and K9 Naji; plus K9 Shep.

Stay safe! 🐍👀

⚠️ Safety Alert - Rattlesnakes Are Active in the Forest! 🐍🌲

As temperatures rise, rattlesnakes become more active in the forest. Stay alert, watch where you step, and keep pets close

If you encounter a rattlesnake, give it plenty of space and calmly move away. Never attempt to touch or disturb wildlife!

⚠️ How to treat snake bites:
• Call 911 and seek medical attention immediately
• Keep the snake bite victim still, as movement helps the venom spread through the body
• Keep the injured body part motionless and just lower than heart level
• Keep the victim warm, calm and at rest
• Do not allow the person to eat or drink anything
• Cover the bite with a clean, dry dressing

⚠️ Do NOT do any of the following:
• Wait for symptoms to appear if bitten, seek immediate medical attention
• Apply a tourniquet
• Slash the wound with a knife
• Suck out the venom
• Apply ice or immerse the wound in water
• Drink alcohol as a painkiller
• Drink caffeinated beverages

🐾 Small paws, big hero energy 🐾

K9 Boots put her skills to work and successfully tracked down and located a 10-year old juvenile. Safe, sound, and proof that every sniff counts. Way to go K-9 Boots and Deputy Storm. 💙🐕‍🦺

Timothy Staples - EOW December 14, 2019
On December 14, 2019, Tim was actively searching a portion of Mt. Baldy for a lost hiker in adverse conditions as part of the West Valley search and rescue team. During the search, Tim slipped from the trail and suffered fatal injuries.

Tim was a well-loved history teacher and cross-country coach at St. Lucy’s Priory High School, and later, Damien High School in La Verne. A graduate of Gonzaga University in Washington, Tim met his wife, Katie, while at Damien and married her in 2019. Tim is survived by his new bride and his mother, Barbara. Tim was a dedicated, well-experienced, 9-year member of the team, volunteering hundreds of hours for the citizens of San Bernardino County.

Please take a moment to remember Tim, as he gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving as a volunteer. “So, others may live”.
