Parents At A Loss Foundation Inc.
Founder/CEO Antonio “Tony” Diaz and Director of Operations Karen Goodwin have been out and about this month spreading holiday cheer!

We started the month at Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh’s Holiday Open House and Food Drive, enjoying wonderful company, great conversations, and delicious treats.

The later part of the week we headed over to the Annual Holiday Open House & Toy Drive hosted by Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca Jr.

Tony also made sure to capture a moment with his longtime friend Dr. Terrance Stone, Founder/CEO of the Young Visionaries.

We are grateful for every opportunity to connect, collaborate, and continue serving our community during this holiday season. 🎄✨

Common Terms for Loss:

We have words for certain kinds of loss.

When a woman loses her husband, she becomes a widow.

When a man loses his wife, he becomes a widower.

When a child loses a parent, we call them an orphan.

But there is another word quiet, unfamiliar, and rarely spoken.

A word no parent ever hopes to learn.

“Viloma”

Viloma means “against the natural order.”

It describes a loss so profound that even language struggles to hold it the loss of a child.

Parents aren’t meant to bury their children.

Life isn’t supposed to unfold that way.

A viloma is a parent whose world has been turned inside out, whose heart carries a weight beyond words.

It’s a reminder that this kind of grief isn’t just loss it’s a break in the very order of life.
