Sociedad Herencia Puertorriqueña is deeply saddened to announce the passing of retired Sergeant First Class Ismael Nevarez. He was not only the father of our vice president, Olga E. Custodio, but also a proud member of 'The Borinqueneers' of the historic 65th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army -- the largest, longest standing and only active duty segregated Latino military unit in U.S. history.

In lieu of flowers, his family is asking donations be made in his honor to two San Antonio non-profit organizations that support military members and their families. They are Soldiers' Angels and Fisher House, Inc.

To learn more about the life and legacy of Ismael, read his obituary here: https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/san-antonio-tx/ismael-nevarez-13028024

It has come to our attention that someone is contacting our followers claiming we are disbanded and trying to sell t-shirts with our logo on it. This is false. We are not disbanded, this person is not affiliated with our organization and we are not currently doing any t-shirt fundraisers. If you receive a message, please report it to Facebook.

Right now, our board of directors is in the planning stages of our next event. Once information is available on that event, we will share it publicly here on our social media pages, as well as our website.
