Big things are happening in Houston!

We are excited to partner with West Gray Recreation Center to host our Houston Lending Closet.

As the demand for medical supplies and equipment continues to grow, we wanted to make it easier for families to access the items they need. This new location will provide a more convenient place to pick up and drop off equipment and supplies, while being centrally located within the community we serve.

From wheelchairs and walkers to shower chairs, medical supplies, and more, our Lending Closet helps families access essential items at no cost when they need them most.

Our official opening date is coming soon!

Yesterday, we received a call from a mom facing something no parent ever wants to hear… uncertainty. Her child had gone from walking to suddenly not being able to put any weight on his feet without pain. Doctor appointments. Questions without answers. Worry. Fear. And one big question… “Who do I call?”

She called Spina Bifida Texas.

Because of our Lending Closet, we were able to provide her family with a wheelchair and a ramp so he could safely get in and out of his home. The wheelchair and ramp had been donated to us just a few months ago by a Spina Bifida family who knew that one day, someone else would need them.

Today was that day.

The smile on his face when he realized he could get from point A to point B without pain… that smile said everything. Relief. Freedom. Independence.

This is why our Lending Closet matters.

A special thank you to SuSuzannah Smilesor supporting this program. Because of their partnership, families facing unexpected medical challenges have somewhere to turn when life changes overnight.

SB 250 is just 22 days away, and this right here is why people ride 250 miles across Texas heat. 💛

In this video, Spina Bifida Texas Executive Director Rosanne Gonzales sits down with another Suzannah Smiles grant recipient who received a wheelchair through a grant that opened doors to greater independence, opportunity, and quality of life.

Every mile pedaled during SB 250 helps make moments like this possible. Through the incredible support of Suzannah Smiles and dedicated SB 250 riders, grants are provided to the spina bifida community and critical programs at Spina Bifida Texas continue serving families who need them most.

To Suzannah Smiles, thank you for believing in this community. To every rider training, sweating, and pushing through the miles… thank you. You are creating impact far beyond the finish line. 🚴💛

Thanks to a grant from Suzannah Smiles, Devyn received a basketball wheelchair — something insurance does not cover, but something he absolutely needed to compete and thrive in adaptive sports.

These specialized wheelchairs can cost thousands of dollars and are built specifically for speed, agility, and safety on the court. For many families, they are simply out of reach without support.

Now, Devyn is headed to compete at the Endeavor Games next month in Oklahoma, and we cannot wait to cheer him on. 🏀🔥

Programs like this don’t just provide equipment. They create opportunities, confidence, independence, and access to dreams that every child deserves.

Shout out to our SBTX Athletes!

SB 250, Miles has led you all through the finish line!

For many individuals with disabilities, accommodating sports is a great way for them to find their passion. Athletes with physical and visual disabilities competed in a paralympic-style event in San Antonio over the weekend in the Texas Parasport Games.

Competitors from all over Texas with a range of disabilities competed in air gun, wheelchair tennis, and para powerlifting this weekend at Morgan’s Wonderland Event Center.

Returning parasport athlete Linden Williamson of Boerne was ready to compete in her first air gun competition.
