This week on Road to Hope Radio, hosted by David Maulsby, we share the powerful story of Brian Estrella, a combat Veteran whose journey reflects both the weight of war and the hope of redemption.

Brian joined the United States Army in 2003 at just 19 years old. He deployed to Iraq from 2004 –2005, where he served running security routes and as part of a Quick Reaction Force (QRF). During his service, he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) and Airborne wings for his dedication and courage.

But like many Combat Veterans, the battle did not end when he came home. Brian struggled with PTSD, alcoholism, and the strain these challenges placed on his marriage and personal life. At one point, he even experienced homelessness and survived multiple su***de attempts.

Today, Brian openly shares that his life began to change when he found the PTSD Foundation of America’s Camp Hope. Through the program, he credits the opportunity to rebuild his life and rediscover his faith in Jesus Christ.

Also joining the conversation is Matthew, who served in the Army and deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. Together, their stories offer a powerful reminder that healing is possible and that no Veteran has to walk the road alone.

Tune in this week to hear their honest conversation about struggle, resilience, faith, and the journey from surviving to living with hope.

In just two weeks, the Women’s Warrior Group is already making an impact.

One participant recently shared that she almost didn’t return after the first meeting because she feared being triggered. But she came back, and what she found was something powerful: a space where women Veterans don’t have to apologize for sharing, don’t have to shrink, and don’t have to earn their place in the room.

Together, they’re learning what it means to lay down the armor and begin healing. In just two weeks, the Women’s Warrior Group is already making an impact.

If you’re a female Veteran looking for connection, encouragement, and a confidential place to talk with women who understand the journey, we invite you to join us this week.

This week on Road to Hope Radio with David Maulsby, he welcomed back two brothers whose story continues to unfold in powerful ways, Jason and Brian Tugmon.

Both brothers served as Army 68W Medics in Iraq in 2010, carrying the weight of what they experienced long after returning home. During the show, they spoke openly about living with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and the struggles that followed their service, including Brian’s battle with self-medicating.

The conversation began with something many Veterans struggle to talk about: loss. Over the holidays, while both were in the Camp Hope program, their family lost two loved ones. Their mentor Petey joined the discussion and shared honestly about his own journey, including how before coming to Camp Hope he simply didn’t have the ability to process loss at all.

Moments like these are a reminder of why the brotherhood and mentorship at Camp Hope matter so deeply.

One of the most powerful lessons both brothers shared from the program is simple, but life-changing: you are not alone.

For Jason, faith has become the cornerstone of his healing, saying during the show, “Faith is what changes everything.”

David asked both brothers a reflective question:
If you were writing your autobiography, what would you title the chapter you’re currently living at Camp Hope?

Brian’s answer: “The Road to Resilience.”
Jason’s answer: “The Transition.”

Both titles capture the reality of the journey, one filled with growth, rebuilding, and at times anxiety as they step into a new season of life.

Looking ahead, the brothers shared their hopes for the future. Along with their third brother, who is still serving in the Army in Georgia, they hope to one day purchase property and build something meaningful together as a family. Just as important, both Jason and Brian are working toward reconnecting with their children and rebuilding those relationships.

Healing doesn’t happen overnight. But stories like theirs remind us that resilience, faith, and brotherhood can light the path forward.

We’re grateful they chose to share their story with our listeners.

February 2026 Graduation – “Built to Lead”

We celebrated nine amazing Veterans this past February. Seven Soldiers and two Marines poured their hearts into the Camp Hope Program and did the difficult work of rebuilding.

This class dominated the program. From day one, they carried themselves with grit and determination. But what really impressed us was how far they came. They traded isolation for brotherhood, ego for humility, and mere existence for a life lived with purpose. Change like that doesn’t just happen. It’s earned through a commitment to daily growth, tough conversations, and doing the hard work most will avoid their entire lives.

The Army took the lead this month, but our Soldiers and Marines graduated side by side. Each man fought for his future and pushed their brothers to become better. They encouraged each other. Held each other accountable. And refused to let each other quit. Leaders are built that way.

February 2026, you left your excuses at the door and rebuilt your lives. You chose strength. Growth. Hope. We are proud you and excited to see the leaders you will become.

Congrats my brothers. Continue to build.

This Week on Road to Hope Radio, hosted by David Maulsby

This week, we are honored to share the story of Army Sergeant (E5) James Perez.

James was just 23 years old, attending community college in Austin, when the attacks of 9/11 changed the trajectory of his life. Coming from a legacy of service, his father served in Vietnam, and his grandfather in World War II, James felt the call to step forward. He enlisted in the United States Army, served as an Armor Crewman, and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, with deployment to Iraq.

Like so many combat Veterans, James describes the deep sense of brotherhood formed in service, and the profound void that followed after returning home. In 2006, back in San Antonio, he struggled to reconnect with friends and community. The disconnect grew. Eventually, he withdrew and moved far away, carrying the weight of invisible wounds.

During the conversation, we reflected on a powerful truth: the men who come to Camp Hope are deeply patriotic. Many say they would “do it all over again” for this country, even knowing the cost. That love of nation, that willingness to sacrifice, is often intertwined with the very struggles they now face.

Now at Camp Hope for a short time, James shares something remarkable. He says he has been shown what true love looks like: people who don’t walk away, but who walk with you.

His story is one of service, sacrifice, isolation, and rediscovered hope.

🎧 Tune in this week to Road to Hope Radio and hear James’ powerful testimony of resilience and brotherhood restored.

We are incredibly grateful for friends who quietly serve behind the scenes to bless our Veterans. 🎸🎹

A heartfelt thank you to David Wallace, a true Friend of Camp Hope, for recently cleaning, polishing, restringing, and tuning our bass guitar and two electric guitars that our talented residents love to play.

And this wasn’t the first time he stepped in to help; just a few months ago, David also tuned our piano. Because of his generosity, the music at Camp Hope continues to play clearly and beautifully. For many of our Veterans, music is more than sound; it’s therapy, connection, and healing.

David, thank you for using your gifts to serve those who have served us. We are truly thankful.

This week on Road to Hope Radio, hosted by David Maulsby, we are honored to introduce a powerful story of resilience, accountability, and redemption.

Joining us is Tranmainium “Silva” Williams, a U.S. Army veteran from Memphis, Tennessee.

Silva deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom shortly after completing basic training. While serving in supply, his base endured frequent mortar attacks. Determined to do more for his brothers in arms, he volunteered for supply missions outside the wire, placing himself in even greater danger.

About five months into deployment, the invisible wounds began to surface. Silva struggled with severe PTSD symptoms that manifested in extreme anger outbursts. Those struggles ultimately led to his separation from the Army. After returning home, the battle intensified. Moving from job to job and city to city, untreated trauma took its toll. His path led to incarceration, where he spent 15 and a half years behind bars.

Upon release, Silva made a decisive choice: he came straight to Camp Hope. In this episode, he opens up about living with PTSD, Manic Depressive Disorder, Reactive Attachment Disorder, and the long-term impact of combat trauma. He also shares a brief but deeply moving story about Christmas at Camp Hope, a moment that speaks volumes about restoration, brotherhood, and the power of second chances.

His story is raw.
It’s honest.
And it is exactly why Road to Hope Radio exists.

Tune in this week and hear how hope is not just a word, it’s a road worth walking. https://www.iheart.com/podcast/390-road-to-hope-radio-28216649/

This Valentine’s Day, Let Love Show Up When It Matters Most

Flowers fade. Chocolates disappear.
But hope can change a life forever.

This Valentine’s Day, you can be the reason a combat veteran feels remembered, supported, and valued. At the PTSD Foundation of America | Camp Hope, veterans battling PTSD and isolation find something many haven’t felt in years—connection, stability, and a path forward.

When you give, you’re not sending a card.
You’re providing safe housing, peer support from fellow veterans, licensed counseling, meals, and daily care—at no cost to those who served.

Your compassion tells a Veteran:
You matter. You’re not alone. Help is here.

Choose a kind of love that doesn’t end on February 14.

💙 Stand with our veterans
