Try describing a black hole without a word for "gravity." For sign language users, talking about space has been that hard.

Terms like "nebula" had to be spelled letter by letter — slow and frustrating.

The International Astronomical Union is changing that. In 2017, they created 47 space‑related signs. In 2025, they added 86 more, covering "neutron stars" and "gravitational waves."
