Shout out to University United Methodist Church for allowing us to pick up their unsold pumpkins today to compost them! That's about 1520 lbs that was kept out of the landfill by our calculations.
Know a church or organization that needs our help cleaning up their pumpkin patch? Let us know when we can help!
And call Eddie for all your dumpster haul away needs.

Worm tea recipe ☕ (for plants, not people!) Here’s how to brew it for your soil.

1. Fill a 5-gallon bucket with water. Let sit 24 hours to remove chlorine.
2. Place worm castings in a fine mesh bag or cheesecloth.
3. Add 1–2 tablespoons of unsulfured molasses to feed microbes.
4. Aerate with an aquarium pump and air stone for 12–24 hours.
5. Use within 24 hours on soil or as a foliar spray.

Do you have a worm tea tip or recipe you like to use? Let us know!

🌱 How Our Bucket System Works 🌱

Every week, our amazing volunteers keep 700+ compost buckets in rotation! Here’s how the cycle works:

1️⃣ Volunteers pick up buckets of fruit & veggie scraps.
2️⃣ Buckets are dropped off at our distribution hubs (either on the northeast side or south of the Medical Center).
3️⃣ Once buckets are ready, we post the hub addresses in our Facebook Group.

✨ Buckets are first come, first serve — so check back on this post for updates.

🙌 Help us keep the community informed:
When you pick up, please comment with:
✔️ How many buckets you grabbed
✔️ How many are left
📸 Bonus points if you post a photo of what’s still there!

Together, we’re turning scraps into soil and creating beautiful gardens.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out yesterday — it was inspiring to hear all of your composting questions and see the community come together.

One of my favorite parts of these workshops is watching everyone “take note” — whether it’s jotting things down or snapping photos of the tips shared. Our volunteers have such a wealth of knowledge, and it’s amazing to see that wisdom passed along! 📝

✨ Keep asking, keep learning, and keep composting — together we’re building healthier soil for San Antonio.

When DeFranco from Spaces Alliance of South Texas meets with the community, one of the first questions is:
“What are your gardening or composting challenges?”

Then the magic happens. As a community, we answer these questions together.

That’s the spirit of composting and gardening in San Antonio: sharing knowledge, solving problems, and growing stronger side by side.

📣 Don’t miss it — DeFranco will be speaking tomorrow at our workshop! Come ready with your questions, and let’s learn as a community.

More than just worms! 🪱

The San Antonio Composting Project is an active participant in creating opportunities for San Antonio residents to meet up and learn more about the soil, plants, 🌱 and everything sustainable.

A couple of Saturday’s a month the San Antonio Composting Project hosts seed and plant 🪴 swaps where neighbors can come together and share their plants 🌱 and seeds 🍉 with each other and give each other tips on where and when to plant 🪴 them for best results!!

This week we had the pleasure of hosting Cristine Kay Brouillette who gave an inspiring talk on companion planting.

Special thanks to EcoSA for giving a wonderful workshop and garden 🪴 🪏 tour to all who showed up!!
