REST. RECOVER. REBUILD. | RJ’S STORY

After three years of homelessness, RJ’s journey is a powerful reminder that even when hope feels distant, a new beginning can be closer than we think. 🛌 💙

RJ arrived at an emergency shelter in San Antonio in September 2024. His journey was filled with challenges, setbacks, perseverance, and ultimately, hope.

There were moments when the journey became difficult, and RJ began to wonder if moving into his own apartment would ever become a reality. But just when hope seemed to be fading, things began to change. RJ was approved for an apartment!

The emergency shelter reached out to First Rest Foundation, and we were honored to provide RJ with a bed and dresser for his new home. While First Rest Foundation believes everyone deserves a comfortable place to rest when beginning a new chapter.

Today, RJ proudly shares pictures of his new home, and his excitement says it all. His journey is a testament to patience, perseverance, and the importance of never giving up.

First Rest Foundation is proud to have played a small but meaningful part in RJ’s new beginning. We are grateful for the opportunity to help turn an empty space into a place where he can rest and rebuild.

As a faith-based nonprofit serving San Antonio, our mission is to provide free beds and sleep essentials to individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness. We believe rest is more than comfort. It is a foundation for healing, stability, and dignity.

Sometimes, a bed is more than a bed. It is a reminder that someone cares.

🙏 Rest. Recover. Rebuild.

🥫 ONE YEAR. ONE COMMUNITY. ONE MISSION. ❤️

Today, First Rest Foundation celebrated one year of serving our community through food distribution, and what happened today was truly a reflection of what can happen when a community comes together.

We may be rooted on the Southeast Side of San Antonio, but our mission reaches all across San Antonio. Today, our Southeast Side community showed up in a BIG way. Together, we were able to serve more than 100–150 individuals and families with food and resources.

This day would not have been possible without the people and organizations who stepped up and stood alongside us.

A special THANK YOU to:

🥫 San Antonio Food Bank — for helping us make sure food reached the families who needed it.

🍽️ Destiny's Grill&Bar — for continuing to open your doors and support the work happening in our community.

💙 Our First Rest Foundation members & volunteers — your time, energy, and willingness to serve are what make this mission possible.

🤝 Alamo City Borrachas — thank you for stepping up and helping us make today’s distribution happen.

And most importantly, thank you to our community. You showed up. You supported. You volunteered. You helped your neighbors.

One year ago, this was an idea rooted in service. Today, it is a growing movement powered by people who believe that when we take care of one another, we strengthen the entire community.

First Rest Foundation is proud to serve San Antonio — from the Southeast Side and beyond.

🙏 One year down. The mission continues.

Some chapters hurt. Some broke you. Some made you wonder how you were ever going to make it through.

But then JESUS stepped in. ❤️‍🔥

HE took the pain, the hurt, the failure, the shame, and the broken pieces, and showed us that GOD can still write something beautiful with a story we thought was over.

Your past may explain some of your scars, but it does not get the final word. JESUS does.

💬 If GOD has rewritten a chapter of your life, drop a 🙌🏽 in the comments!
