A more accessible San Antonio is something worth celebrating! 🎉

Congratulations to San Antonio International Airport's Accessibility Focus Group on receiving the 2026 Martha Arbuckle Award, part of the statewide Lex Frieden Employment Awards.

Jane Paccione, the Area Foundation's Managing Director of Collective Impact, served on the focus group, contributing to this collaborative effort to make San Antonio more accessible for all.

The group brought together community members, including people with disabilities, to help shape a more inclusive travel experience and inform the design of the airport's future Terminal C.

“When we remove barriers and design with accessibility in mind, we create a stronger, more welcoming San Antonio for everyone,” Jane shared.

We were thrilled to welcome the team from Mule Time Media to today's Local News Summit. They jumped right into the conversations, made meaningful connections, and reminded us why investing in the next generation of journalists and storytellers matters.

Local news depends on curious minds, engaged communities, and a commitment to sharing stories that inform and connect us. We're grateful these young leaders (and their furry friend!) joined us for a day focused on trust, information, and opportunity.

We're officially underway at the The Trust & Opportunity Local News Summit!

Today, we're proud to welcome journalists, community leaders, and residents from across our region to explore the relationship between trust, information, and opportunity.

Building on the conversations that began at last night's reception, today's summit creates space for shared learning, meaningful dialogue, and collaboration around the role local news plays in strengthening civic engagement and community connection.

We're excited for the conversations ahead and grateful to everyone joining us for this important community discussion.

Tonight, leaders from across San Antonio came together for Trust & Opportunity, an evening of conversation, connection, and learning with Dr. Raj Chetty of Harvard University.

Dr. Chetty shared research showing that trust, relationships, and friendships across backgrounds can play a powerful role in creating economic opportunity and upward mobility.

Through discussion, data, and shared experiences, attendees explored how stronger connections can help build a more prosperous future for our region. The evening brought together civic, nonprofit, philanthropic, and business leaders to consider an important question: How can trust help expand opportunity for more people in our community? 

At the Area Foundation, we believe that trust is the foundation of strong communities and that opportunity grows when people feel connected, included, and empowered to contribute. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the conversation meaningful.

We're proud to see Generations Over Dinner featured by the Council on Foundations.

A simple meal can spark powerful conversations. By bringing together people across generations, this program is helping create meaningful connections, challenge assumptions, and strengthen our community.

Once a month or more, San Antonio residents come together for dinner with strangers. Typically, they gather around tables with fresh flowers and seats for as many as eight people. Pasta or another simple entree is served family-style. Guests talk about people in their lives, their proudest moments,....

From celebrating 150 years of impact with the YMCA of Greater San Antonio at Suits, Satin & Sneakers, to recognizing a decade of community leadership with SVP San Antonio, and supporting the incredible mission of Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, we've loved being part of these special moments.

We are proud to support our nonprofit partners and celebrate the people and organizations making a difference throughout our community every day.
