City of San Antonio draws 14% of CPS Energy's gross revenue, making up up roughly 30% of the city’s general fund. Proposal to cut it off would compound existing budget problems.

Tonight is the final Bexar County Budget Town Hall of this budget cycle, and I hope you'll join us.

The County budget is much more than a spreadsheet. It's a reflection of our responsibilities, our priorities, and our commitment to serving the people of Bexar County.

Some parts of the budget are required by law. We fund our courts, public safety, elections, and other essential services that County government is responsible for providing. Beyond those obligations, every budget is also a reflection of what we value as a community. It determines how we invest in public health, parks, infrastructure, services for seniors and veterans, support for small businesses, programs that address homelessness and food insecurity, and so much more.

If you've ever wondered what County government actually does, where your tax dollars go, or how funding decisions are made, this is a great opportunity to learn.

Join us tonight from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the San Antonio Food Bank (5200 Historic Old Hwy. 90). You'll have the opportunity to meet representatives from County departments, ask questions, learn about the budget process, and share what's most important to you and your family.

County government touches our lives in more ways than many people realize. An informed community is a stronger community, and your voice helps make Bexar County better for everyone.

Budget Director says San Antonio would need to trim $70 million out of its next two years’ budgets to remain structurally sound—even if it raises property taxes to the highest rate allowed by state law.

Texas law allows cities to collect up to 3.5% more revenue from property taxes over the previous year without asking voters' permission.
