For the past three years, the AIM Health R&D Summit has demonstrated what’s possible when sectors come together around a shared mission to accelerate pre-hospital, trauma, and disaster medicine.

Now the conference is evolving, with an expanded mission and a new name: BRDG Health Summit.

BRDG—Business/R&D/Government—builds on the foundation established by AIM while opening the aperture to include all areas of government and the full spectrum of research and development.

Last Friday, we welcomed economic development leaders from across the region to San Antonio's near Eastside for a closer look at VelocityTX and the work happening here.

The group heard from VelocityTX President and CEO Rene Dominguez, San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside CEO James Nortey, and Alamo Angels' Managing Partner Sebastian Garzon about the growth taking place at VelocityTX and across the Eastside, including efforts to support entrepreneurs, attract new companies, strengthen the surrounding community, and create new opportunities for investment.

Afterward, participants walked next door to tour the labs of BBG Advanced Therapies, where COO Adrienne Mendoza gave them an inside look at the life science capabilities being built right here in San Antonio.

We’re always glad to share what’s happening here with the regional partners who are helping tell San Antonio’s story, attract investment, and strengthen our economy across South Texas.

Many thanks to greater: SATX, Bexar County Economic and Community Development, and all of the regional leaders who joined us.

Creating a healthier future takes more than great healthcare—it takes collaboration, innovation, and strong communities.

This week, VelocityTX team members Jessica Harris and Micaela Reznicek joined community leaders from across South Texas at the second annual Healthier Tomorrow Summit, where they explored how health innovation, economic opportunity, and community development can work together to strengthen our region.

Huge thanks to Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. for putting on this terrific event!

📣 The August Edition of BioBrief is LIVE!

This month, San Antonio’s bioscience momentum is going global as Belgian biotech Valedyn selects San Antonio—and the VelocityTX campus—for its U.S. headquarters.

We’re also highlighting new UT Health San Antonio research shedding light on a rare form of dementia in Hispanic patients, BBG Advanced Therapies’ work to expand access to early lung cancer detection, and a $34 million hospital redevelopment.

This week on Vital Signs, we’re talking about a very different kind of lab as we sit down with Maxwell Heathcott, Director of R&D, Bakery at C.H. Guenther.

Maxwell walks us through the science, creativity, and problem-solving behind foods most of us never think twice about: how R&D teams match existing products, use sensory panels to put those matches to the test, and translate ideas from the lab to full-scale production.

We also get into the push and pull between culinary creativity and food science, Maxwell’s winding path from philosophy degree to culinary school to R&D, and what it takes to turn a great idea into something that can actually be made consistently at scale.

And, naturally, we settle some important questions about burger construction, sandwich friction, and whether tomatoes belong anywhere near a burger.

This October, VelocityTX will host the San Antonio Black International Film Festival for its “Sunday Glory” Wrap Day-Party and Best of Show film screening.

This year’s theme, HISTORY upRISING!, celebrates the power of film to preserve history, elevate Black voices, and share stories through the perspectives of the people who lived them. We’re proud to provide a space where those stories—and the filmmakers, creatives, families, and community members who support them—can come together.

So make plans to bring your family, your friends, a blanket or lawn chair, and join us at the VelocityTX Campus Courtyard as we celebrate Black independent cinema, creativity, culture, and community.

📅 Sunday, October 4
📍 VelocityTX
🎉 Wrap Day-Party: 5 PM
🌟 Cinema Under the Stars: 7:30–9:30 PM

Last night we wrapped up our Eastside Access and Infrastructure community meetings with one more opportunity for Near Eastside residents, businesses, and community partners to help shape what comes next.

Attendees reviewed proposed infrastructure projects, shared their top priorities, and engaged in conversations about four projects under consideration as we work to develop recommendations for the City’s next bond program.

From safer streets, sidewalks, crossings, and transit to improved public spaces and stronger commercial corridors, every conversation throughout this process has helped us better understand what matters most to the Eastside. We’ll use the feedback gathered through these meetings to help ensure our final recommendations reflect the community’s priorities and desires, and we look forward to sharing those recommendations with the community once they are complete.

A special thank you to Pape-Dawson for joining us and helping facilitate conversations around the proposed projects, and to our partners San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside and LISC San Antonio for their continued commitment to the Near Eastside.

Most importantly, many thanks to each and every community member who showed up, shared feedback, asked questions, and helped prioritize investments for the neighborhood. Your voice has been an essential part of this process!

Welcome to San Antonio! 🎉

At today’s meeting of the Military Transformation Task Force (MTTF), we celebrated the appointments of two critical new leaders in San Antonio's military community: Brig. Gen. David J. Wilson, who took command of Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) and the 502d Air Base Wing last month, as well as Retired US Army Maj. Gen. Scott Jackson, newly appointed Director of the City of San Antonio Military and Veteran Affairs Department—a special honor given that today was his first in the role!

MTTF brings military, civic, and community leaders together to strengthen JBSA’s missions, readiness, and long-term future in San Antonio.

Special thanks to MTTF tri-chairs Grant Moody-Bexar County Commissioner for Precinct 3, San Antonio District 9 Councilwoman Misty D. Spears, and Greater San Antonio Chamber CEO Jeff Webster for their continued leadership and commitment to Military City, USA®.

Yesterday’s Secret Skill social was truly an ear-opening experience! 🎻✨

The Innovation Center came alive with beautiful music as Turner Rey, VelocityTX team member and founder of Embrace Strings, shared the story behind his entrepreneurial journey and how a passion for music grew into a business.

Turner and his partner Max Moreland then treated our community to a special performance that filled the space with incredible sound and energy. Turner is truly a gifted musician, and seeing his artistry and entrepreneurial spirit come together made the afternoon especially memorable.

That’s what Secret Skill is all about—discovering the unexpected talents, passions, and stories within our VelocityTX community.

A huge thank you to Turner and Max for sharing their music with us, and to everyone who joined us for such an inspiring afternoon! 💙
