This morning, VelocityTX welcomed leaders from City of San Antonio - Municipal Government for a special briefing about our Eastside Access and Infrastructure Initiative.

Centered around the ongoing development projects that will reshape the face of downtown, our conversation highlighted the importance of incorporating eastside resident and business perspectives in decisions about infrastructure and investment.

Together with our partners at San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside and LISC San Antonio, the group discussed opportunities to improve public spaces, strengthen neighborhood connectivity, and support the long-term growth of the Eastside, while sharing ideas and priorities to ensure residents feel heard and represented in the process.

Did you know that every purchase you make from one of our Community House companies helps to promote inclusive economic development? Behind that work is a growing team — and today we're excited to add another terrific leader to our ranks.

Please join us in welcoming Brendan Bean as Managing Director of Community House. In this role, Bean will help drive growth across the Community House portfolio of companies, which includes Allen & Allen Company and Quality Fence & Welding. 📣 The June Edition of BioBrief is LIVE!

This month, we're spotlighting Texas Biomedical Research Institute's $83M expansion and the urgent work already underway at the institute, where researchers are now testing antiviral compounds against the rare Bundibugyo strain driving the current Ebola outbreak in Central Africa.

We're also celebrating big moves from UTSA - The University of Texas at San Antonio, including millions in new state funding, a $44M rural health contract, and a breakthrough on regrowing bone and blood vessels.

And if you missed it, we're recapping the AIM Health R&D Summit, which brought together academia, industry, and military to push dual-use medical innovation forward right here in San Antonio.

ProPEL returned to VelocityTX for its second year — and 2026 set a new bar.

The Defense Health Agency and researchers from across the region's military medical ecosystem gathered for a day of poster sessions, cross-disciplinary conversations, and the kind of connections that only happen when the right people are in the same room. Military personnel, scientists, and clinicians shared their latest work, pushed each other's thinking, and carried the momentum straight into the AIM 2026 Welcome Reception.

This is what the ecosystem looks like when it's firing on all cylinders.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and contributed — and a well-earned shoutout to Diana Del Monaco and Michelle Lockwood for producing another outstanding event.

Joining Us This Summer! ☀️

This week, VelocityTX hosted a welcome event for our 2026 summer interns, Daniella and Camden. Daniella, who will be assisting with startup programming, is an entrepreneurship student at St. Mary's University. Camden, a senior at The University of Alabama , will be helping out in our marketing department.

Over breakfast, the interns connected with the VelocityTX team through icebreakers and conversations, getting to know the people they’ll be working alongside this summer. As Daniella and Camden take on new projects and grow in their roles, we look forward to seeing their impact and hearing what they’ve learned during final presentations in August!

Special thanks as always to the Students + Startups Internship Program for matching us with these terrific young innovators!

The June edition of our Strategic Update just dropped — and it's got a fresh new look.

May was one of our busiest months ever, and we have a LOT to report: AIM 2026 saw record attendance; Velocity Bioworks opened its doors here on the campus; City Council formalized our partnership with a new MOA; and if that wasn't enough, Rene got invited to Harvard.

We couldn't have picked a better month for a refresh. Don't sleep on this one → velocitytx.org/update

It's hard to believe it's already been two weeks since our AIM 2026 Welcome Reception!

Designed to promote pre-summit networking, the event brought together innovators, military medical leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs, and community partners around our shared mission to advance dual use medical technologies.

We were honored to be joined by Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, who shared remarks recognizing the importance of this work in improving healthcare outcomes for service members, veterans, and civilian communities alike. The evening also featured a bourbon tasting, interactive demonstrations, and opportunities to explore innovative work in medical modeling, simulation, and training. A special shoutout to Bob Naething for bringing the Clocktower Bourbon Club into the celebration and adding a memorable touch to the evening.

Many thanks to MTEC for sponsoring the event, to our exhibitors for showcasing their leading edge solutions, and to all of the guests, partners, and supporters who joined us.
