🎓 Graduating Senior Spotlight 🎓 Congratulations to Sophia C., who graduated from Fox Tech High School (Health Magnet and H-Tech) with honors and from San Antonio College magna cm laude. She also earned her pharmacy tech certification.

She plans to major in biology and psychology at the University of Texas at San Antonio and pursue a career where she can contribute to people's well-being in a meaningful way, she said. Sophia has been in Girl Scouts since Daisies and served as a program aide for the Archdiocese of San Antonio Catholic Committee on Girl Scouting summer camps. She is a member of Troop 3079 and enjoyed traveling to Savannah, Georgia, with the troop in June after graduation. She bridged to Adults in May and is now a lifetime Girl Scout. 💚✨

Girl Scouts in Troop 5116 welcomed Scout, a dog-assisted counseling dog at Alamo Heights Junior School, recently. Scout is named for Girl Scouts and the troop, of which the late Kellyanne Lytal was a member. Her foundation covered the cost of Scout, and the troop even donated Girl Scout Cookie money to help fund the partnership.

“Kellyanne wanted a dog so bad,” Kellyanne’s mother, Malorie Lytal, said. “I feel like this is a way that I can get her a dog from heaven and have it with the purpose behind her foundation — with Scout spreading kindness.” 💚

The Alamo Heights Independent School District welcomed a new member to its community when classes resumed: Scout, the district’s first therapy dog.

✨ Let's celebrate the magic of girls! ✨ Day of the Girl S.A. returns Sunday, October 11, at Hemisfair's Yanaguana Garden. This year's theme is Your Sparkle, Tu Magia (Your Sparkle, Your Magic). RSVP today at www.dayofthegirlsa.org.

The event, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free and celebrates everything about girls—what makes them special and how we can better their lives. What makes your girl sparkle? 🌟 Troop Shoutout 🌟 Where can a box of Girl Scout Cookies take you? 🍪🗽For Troop 702, they traveled all the way to New York City!

After selling nearly 24,000 packages of Girl Scout Cookies over several years, these Girl Scouts turned years of goal setting, teamwork, persistence, and cookie entrepreneurship into an unforgettable experience.

The girls explored the Statue of Liberty, reflected at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, experienced Broadway, visited Top of the Rock At Rockefeller Plaza, and discovered American history firsthand during our nation’s 250th anniversary year.

Their journey is a powerful example of what happens when Girl Scouts dream big, work toward a goal, and see where their determination can take them. All those Girl Scout Cookie sales really did pay off! 💚

🎓 Graduating Senior Spotlight 🎓 Congratulations to Soledad S., who graduated from Antonian Catholic Preparatory High School. Soledad was recognized as being on the varsity tennis team at Antonian all four years. She consistently placed in the top 3 in state and local tournaments. She was in National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Society.

Soledad has been a Girl Scout since Daisies and is a member of Troop 3079. She earned her Bronze Award and was very active in the Archdiocese of San Antonio Catholic Committee on Girl Scouting, serving on its leadership team as a youth member. She refreshed their website and other communication projects for them for her Silver Award. She also earned several national and archdiocesan awards through the National Catholic Committee on Girl Scouts including Family of God, I Live My Faith, Mother Teresa, St. Kateri, Sts. Anne & Joachim, and 2024 Eucharistic Revival.

She plans to major in architectural or civil engineering at Texas Tech University. She bridged to Adults in May and is now a lifetime Girl Scout. 💚✨

⭐ Girl Scout Gold Award Spotlight ⭐ Congratulations to Riley S., of Boerne, on earning the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award! Riley is a graduate of Boerne Champion High School and member of Troop 954.

Recognizing the impact social media and online peer pressure can have on young people, Riley created a powerful public service announcement for her , "Anti Online Bullying/ Peer Pressure," that encourages pre-teens and teens to stay true to themselves, recognize unhealthy peer pressure, and build confidence in their own identity. The educational video will be shared with schools in Boerne ISD, where it can continue to spark important conversations and help students navigate social pressures for years to come.

Through creativity, leadership, and determination, Riley developed a sustainable resource that empowers students to make positive choices and reminds them that they don't have to be "perfect" to be enough. Her project will continue to educate future generations about the importance of self-confidence and authenticity.

Congratulations, Riley, on making a lasting impact in your community and inspiring others through your leadership! 💛✨

Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas has announced the appointment of Dr. Jeanette Ball, Ph.D., as the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Ball’s employment will commence Monday, August 24, before she officially becomes CEO on Wednesday, September 2. Current Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas CEO MajGen Angie Salinas, USMC (Ret.), will retire Tuesday, September 1.

Dr. Ball brings more than three decades of leadership experience in education, youth development, strategic planning, community engagement and organizational transformation. She has served 13 years as a public school superintendent, leading Southwest ISD, Judson ISD, and Uvalde CISD through major initiatives focused on student success, operational improvement, fiscal stewardship, stakeholder trust, and expanded opportunity for young people.

Her appointment reflects the council’s continued commitment to strengthening impact and expanding opportunities for girls across Southwest Texas. As CEO, Dr. Ball will lead the council’s strategic direction and operations, advancing Girl Scouts’ mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.

“Dr. Ball is an accomplished and respected leader whose career reflects a deep commitment to young people, families, and communities,” said Lea Ream, Board Chair of Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. “Her experience building trust across diverse communities and creating opportunities for youth makes her exceptionally well suited to lead our organization. The Board is confident she will bring the vision and energy needed to strengthen our impact for the communities and girls we serve.”

Dr. Ball’s background closely aligns with the council’s focus on community-centered leadership, cultural competency, and meaningful engagement with families, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.

“I am honored to serve as Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas,” Dr. Ball said. “Throughout my career, I have been guided by the belief that every young person deserves opportunities to discover their strengths, build confidence, and realize their potential. Girl Scouts has a powerful and enduring mission, and I look forward to working alongside our Board, staff, volunteers, families, donors, and community partners to support the next generation of girl leaders.”

Ball holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Education and Human Resources from Texas A&M University, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies from Schreiner University. Her professional and community leadership includes service with regional civic and educational organizations such as UP Partnership, the TASA Advocacy Committee, Go Public, San Antonio Rotary, the Bexar County Education Coalition, and the Trinity University Forum Committee.

“Girl Scouts has shaped generations of leaders, entrepreneurs, advocates, and changemakers,” Ball said. “I am excited to build on that legacy and help ensure every girl across Southwest Texas has the opportunity to lead, thrive, and make a lasting impact.”
