Braver Angels, SE Democracy Study, and Navigating Beliefs Course Translations

SEI will bring Street Epistemology to the Braver Angels 2026 National Convention, support a democracy-focused scientific study on SE, and put the finishing touches on the German and French versions of Navigating Beliefs for public release.

18 June 2026

Dear friends,

I’m pleased to share several important updates from Street Epistemology International.

First, SEI will be participating in the Braver Angels 2026 National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from June 25 – 28, 2026. Four SEI representatives with diverse political leanings will be tabling at the convention and offering a space for attendees to gather, learn about Street Epistemology, and help attendees practice applying it to political claims.

We are excited for the opportunity to introduce SE to Braver Angels and to the many attendees from other organizations working in the civic, dialogue, democracy, and depolarization space. These are exactly the kinds of groups and individuals who should be aware of Street Epistemology when it comes to helping people reach across political divides.

Second, SEI is supporting a scientific study on Street Epistemology being conducted by a research team at LMU Munich, led by Prof. Dr. Alexander Wuttke and funded by the German Research Foundation. The study will examine whether structured SE conversations can influence how people reflect on and evaluate democracy. The research team is currently seeking volunteers with SE experience, or the motivation to develop the necessary skills, to conduct structured one-on-one Zoom conversations on democracy-related claims.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the first large-scale scientific evaluations of Street Epistemology in a real-world intervention setting, with a clear connection to strengthening democratic reflection and discourse.

If you are interested in being considered, please fill out this brief registration form:

Finally, both the German and French versions of the Navigating Beliefs course have now been translated, and we have formed review teams to check the translations before publicly releasing them. These versions will contain Modules 1 through 9, just like the current English course does.
https://www.navigatingbeliefs.com/

We can always use more help reviewing these translations. If you are familiar with Street Epistemology and speak either German or French, as well as English, fluently, please complete this volunteer form or contact me directly on Discord.

Our team is also still hard at work on Module 10: Evaluating the Quality of Reasoning from the Navigating Beliefs course. Once that module is ready, we will invite people from the general public to review it and give us feedback before it is released as well. You can register to test this and future course modules by emailing [email protected].

Looking ahead, SEI will also have a table presence, complete with signage and schwag, at the 2026 World Humanist Congress in Ottawa, Canada, from August 7 – 9. We are grateful for each opportunity to share Street Epistemology with people and organizations who are working to improve how we think, talk, and engage with one another.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. To financially support us and efforts like this, please consider making a contribution to our organization.

New Modules Released, Russian Translation Live, and SEI Town Hall Highlights

Three new Navigating Beliefs keystone modules are live, Phase I is now available in Russian, and our latest SEI Town Hall sparked great conversations.

31 January 2026

Dear Street Epistemology community,

We’re excited to share that three brand-new modules from the Navigating Beliefs course are now live in the free English version! These are keystone modules for effective Street Epistemology: Module 7 focuses on identifying and clarifying claims, Module 8 explores confidence and the use of scales, and Module 9 dives into reasons. Together, these modules form a critical backbone for clearer, more productive conversations. We’re thrilled to finally have them available and are incredibly grateful to everyone who volunteered their time and talents.

Our team continues to work steadily on Module 10: Evaluating the Quality of Reasoning. We’re about a year and a half into its development, largely because it’s a tricky sucker to get right. Once this crucial module is complete, we expect the remaining work to wrap up Phase II of the course much more smoothly.

We recognize that the full Navigating Beliefs course has taken longer to develop than we originally anticipated. To help people start learning and applying these concepts sooner, we’ve decided to create a set of shorter “crash course” resources grounded in the same principles and structure as Navigating Beliefs, but designed to require far less time to complete. These condensed materials will offer a practical, accessible way to get up to speed on the core ideas while the full course continues to take shape. If you would like to join one of our teams, reach out to us here.

We’re also pleased to announce that the Russian version of Phase I of the Navigating Beliefs course — Modules 1 through 6 — is now available. In Russian, Street Epistemology is translated as “уличная эпистемология,” which literally means “street epistemology” (“уличная” meaning “street” and “эпистемология” meaning “epistemology”). This marks another important step in making Street Epistemology accessible to a broader, global audience.

Finally, we recently held an SEI Town Hall and had a number of thoughtful and interesting topics come up during the discussion. We really enjoy these opportunities to connect with the community and hear your questions and ideas. We’ll be sure to let you know when the next Town Hall is scheduled. In the meantime, you can listen to the replay on the Street Epistemology Podcast.

SEI Town Hall Announced for January 2026

SEI invites the community to engage directly with the board and learn more about current projects, future initiatives, and personalized coaching opportunities.

17 December 2025

Dear Street Epistemology fans,

We’re pleased to announce an upcoming Street Epistemology International Town Hall, scheduled for Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM US Central. Drop this code in Discord to see the date/time converted for your location: https://streamyard.com/watch/3daNiZJGszPv

This live event will be hosted via StreamYard and streamed publicly on the Street Epistemology YouTube channel, giving community members an opportunity to engage directly with the SEI board. The Town Hall is designed to create an open space for questions, feedback, and discussion about SEI’s ongoing efforts to promote Street Epistemology around the world, the projects currently underway, and the initiatives we’re planning for the future.

Community participation is strongly encouraged. Whether you’re curious about SEI’s direction, want to share feedback, or would like clarification about specific programs or priorities, this is your chance to hear directly from the board and contribute to the conversation.

The event will be recorded and archived on the SE YouTube channel, and portions may also be released as a future episode of the Street Epistemology Podcast, making it accessible to those who are unable to attend live. Please manage your camera, microphone, and screen name accordingly.

Coaching Pilot Program: Now Live

As a secondary topic during the Town Hall, we’ll also be discussing the Street Epistemology Coaching Pilot Program, which is now live and available. https://www.navigatingbeliefs.com/coaching

This pilot offers a white-glove coaching experience for individuals who want personalized, one-on-one or small-group support tailored to their specific situations, goals, and challenges. While courses, videos, and written resources provide a strong foundation, coaching allows learners to apply Street Epistemology more directly to real-world conversations involving family, friends, colleagues, or deeply personal belief conflicts. https://www.streetepistemology.com/

The pilot currently features coaching with longtime SE practitioner Nathan Ferguson (Abstract Activist), whose work emphasizes thoughtful dialogue, reduced defensiveness, and practical skill development grounded in Street Epistemology principles. These offerings are designed to meet people where they are and support meaningful growth through guided reflection and practice.

Coaching options include a free orientation call, structured multi-session programs, mediation-focused sessions, and ongoing mentorship opportunities. The Town Hall will provide a chance to explain how this pilot fits into SEI’s broader vision and how it may evolve based on community feedback and results.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We look forward to connecting with many of you at the January Town Hall and to continuing our shared work of building thoughtful, constructive conversations across cultures and communities.
