SAN ANTONIO — ARE YOU READY?!

Tomorrow night, the Conjunto Heritage Taller’s 24th Annual Tardeada takes the stage, and we are proud to welcome our HEADLINER — the phenomenal JUANITO CASTILLO y LA NUEVA ONDA! 🔥🔥🔥

Born and raised on the West Side of San Antonio, Juanito Castillo is a multi-instrumentalist, recording artist and bandleader who began performing professionally before the age of 10 and went on to master an incredible 14 instruments — including accordion, bajo sexto, guitar, bass, drums and keyboards.

His musical roots run deep. Juanito was influenced and mentored by the legendary Esteban “Steve” Jordan, spending two years playing drums alongside him and carrying forward elements of Jordan’s groundbreaking accordion legacy — while creating a sound and identity all his own.

From Conjunto and Tejano to blues, jazz, funk and rock, Juanito shows us that honoring tradition doesn’t mean standing still. In 2025, he was inducted into the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame, recognizing his contribution to the music and heritage of South Texas.

🔥 AND TOMORROW NIGHT, HE’S OUR HEADLINER! 🔥

🥁✨ 5 DAYS TO GO! Special Guest Spotlight: Clemencia Zapata✨🥁

The countdown is on — only 5 days until CHT’s 24th Annual Tardeada: Accordion Dreams & Conjunto Blues!

We are honored to welcome the legendary Clemencia Zapata as a special guest for this powerful celebration of cultura, comunidad, and the music that tells our story.

Clemencia is a singer, drummer, percussionist, cultural artist, and community changemaker whose career spans nearly five decades. Born in San Antonio, raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and rooted in Austin, Texas since 1985, she has made her mark across music, cultural arts, and activism with a powerful voice, fearless rhythm, and deep commitment to cultura.

A true trailblazer, Clemencia began performing in the 1970s and went on to become a longtime member of Conjunto Aztlan, known as a "Conjunto del Movimiento Chicano", performing at movement events, festivals, barrio fundraisers, universities, and major cultural institutions including the Smithsonian Institution and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Known for her rich, full-bodied voice and incredible versatility, Clemencia moves beautifully across Conjunto Tejano, Chicano music, cumbia, vallenato, salsa, merengue, boleros, blues, rock, jazz, country, and beyond. She has performed with Conjunto Aztlan, Border Soul, Cerronato, Los Pinkys, The Fabulous Polkasonics, The Gulf Coast Playboys, The Myrna Rocks Band, Kiko y La Banda, and many others.

In July 2026, Clemencia was inducted into the "Tejano Legends Chapter 9 Hall of Fame, a well-deserved recognition of her artistry, legacy, and contributions as a legendary drummer, percussionist, and vocalist.

In a Conjunto Tejano tradition historically dominated by men, Clemencia holds the rare and powerful distinction of being one of the few female drummers in the history of the genre — a true groundbreaker whose music continues to inspire future generations.

We are proud to celebrate Clemencia Zapata’s talent, legacy, and corazón at this year’s Tardeada.
