Elizabeth “Liz” Campos is a proud lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas, born and raised on the Southeast side of the city. She currently serves as the State Representative for Texas House District 119 and holds the historic distinction of being the first woman elected to represent the district. Prior to her election, she served as Chief of Staff in the Texas Senate, where she gained invaluable insight into policy-making and community advocacy. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Public Health, a position she has held for two legislative sessions. As the only Hispanic woman on the committee representing the entire state, she plays a vital role in shaping health policy for all Texans. Representative Campos has long been a dedicated advocate for children and families. She has worked to strengthen the Department of Family and Protective Services by championing more resources and support systems, led critical mental health initiatives, and fought to expand access to quality care for seniors and individuals experiencing homelessness. Outside of her legislative work, Representative Campos is a successful entrepreneur. A third-generation plumber, she founded JArnold Services in 2016, proudly continuing her family’s legacy in the skilled trades. Liz left high school due to difficult life circumstances but went on to earn her GED and was working three jobs by the age of 17. Although she was unable to attend college because of personal challenges, she never let that define her. Through perseverance, grit, and faith, she built a life rooted in service and success. Liz is a living example that with determination and hard work, obstacles can become stepping stones. Representative Campos is also deeply grateful to her parents, crediting them for the woman she is today. The values they instilled in her—love, strength, honesty, caring, determination and integrity —are the foundation of her character and continue to guide her in all that she does. She believes that everyone in life serves a purpose—regardless of who you are or the challenges you face. We are all God’s children, and all we need to do is respect each other’s beliefs and help one another to the best of our ability. Her message is simple, yet powerful: “I’m a success story because I never let anyone tell me I couldn’t do it. You can do anything you put your mind to. Anyone can be a king or queen—it’s mind over matter.”
And when she’s not serving the people of Texas, she’s at home being a proud dog mom to her beloved German Shepherds—Jojo and Jolene.
