If you did not receive the email from Ms. Z this morning about commercial lamb distribution, here’s a recap.
A friendly reminder of the upcoming Commercial Lamb Distribution!
Commercial Lamb Distribution will be held at the ASTA School Barns on Wednesday, July 15, at 6:00 PM. Since distribution will be taking place at ASTA this year, the process will look a little different than in previous years. Please review the information below carefully. Also attached for your reference is a map of the distribution process since it spans several buildings.
---
1. Check-In & Paperwork at AMP
Students may begin lining up in the AMP at 5:15 PM. Lambs will be distributed through a random draw process. Once a student draws a number, they will complete the required paperwork with the Gerlach Directors. After paperwork has been completed, students will exit the AMP through the door nearest the distribution table and proceed to the Lower Pig Barn.
2. Distribution Process at Lower Pig Barn
The distribution process in the Lower Pig Barn will be similar to what we use at Gerlach and will follow a one-way traffic flow. ASTA students, staff, and Gerlach Directors will be available throughout the process to assist exhibitors and families. To decrease congestion, only lamb exhibitors will be allowed down the aisle to pick up their lamb.
After receiving their lamb(s), students will exit through the back door of the Lower Pig Barn and proceed to their final destination.
3. After Receiving Your Lamb
On-Campus raisers should take their lamb directly to the Lamb Barn.
Off-Campus raisers should take their lamb directly to their trailer or cage.
The lambs will be fed the morning of distribution and will have access to water throughout the day. Once your lamb reaches its final destination, be sure to provide feed and fresh water.
Do NOT forget to bring a halter to safely move your lamb from the distribution area to the Lamb Barn or your trailer/cage.
***Off-Campus Raisers: If you need to borrow a trailer or cage, please contact Mr. Jacob Clay at [email protected] as soon as possible. Please note that the school has a limited number of trailers and pens available, which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.***
Parking Information
The back parking lot will be reserved for off-campus raisers only to allow trailers and transport cages to be loaded safely and efficiently. An Agriculture Science Teacher will be stationed at the gate to ensure only off-campus raisers enter the back parking area.
Students raising lambs on campus should park in the O'Connor Staff/Visitor Parking Lot. Once distribution has concluded, the back parking lot will reopen for normal use.
Barn Hours
The Lamb Barn will maintain its normal operating hours on distribution day and will close at 8:00 PM. The barn will reopen the following morning at 6:00 AM.
Please plan to arrive on time and be prepared to follow the distribution procedures so the process runs smoothly and efficiently for everyone involved. Thank you for your cooperation and support. We are excited to get the 2026-27 lamb show season underway!
As always check the WGLS GroupMe for the most current information.
