Happy 5th birthday to our sweet Kemmerle! 🎉 We’re so lucky to have her as one of our amazing ambassador dogs and to watch her bring so much joy, love, and personality wherever she goes.

A morning full of stories, smiles, and puppy love!

Our Paws for Purple Hearts team had a wonderful time at Miss Anastasia’s Wild and Wacky Pre-Weekend Twiglet Storytime at The Twig Book Shop! Our assistance dogs in training loved meeting all the kids, families, and friends who stopped by to say hello.

Experiences like these are a great opportunity for our dogs to practice being out in the community while making some new friends along the way.

A special thank you to The Twig Book Shop and Miss Anastasia for welcoming us and letting our pups be part of such a fun San Antonio tradition. We had a great time and hope to visit again soon!

Summer may be in full swing but that doesn't stop our PPH dogs from spending time with our community! ☀️⛱️

Join us at .book.shop for the Dog Days of Summer Twiglet Storytime on August 7th, 2026.

You'll get to enjoy a live reading session of dog themed children's books from and lessons on polite interactions with service dogs (plus petting time at the end 🐾). If you and your kids are looking for something fun to do or you just want to embrace your inner child, this event might just be for you!

First storytime slot: 9:30am-10:30am

🐾 Become a Paws for Purple Hearts Puppy Parent

What are PPH Puppy Parents?

PPH Puppy Parents are vital to the development of a future assistance dog. While our dogs receive professional training during the day, they still need to learn what everyday life is like in a home. For a few months, a PPH pup-in-training goes home with their Puppy Parents to experience household living, meet new people, and build the social skills that are essential for becoming a successful assistance dog for a Service Member or Veteran.

PPH Puppy Parents are special people. They are dog lovers who believe in our mission. They understand the unique responsibility of caring for a dog in training and are committed to helping shape a highly capable assistance dog for a veteran in need.

We offer several ways to volunteer depending on your schedule:

Evenings & Weekends
Puppy Parents drop off their dog Monday–Friday in the morning and pick them up in the evening, then care for them overnight and on weekends while our team works with them during the day through our Canine Assisted Therapeutic Programs.

Weekends Only
If weekday drop-off and pick-up doesn't fit your schedule, you can care for a PPH dog on weekends.

Holidays / Upon Request
Occasionally we may ask Puppy Parents to care for a dog during holidays or for a short extended stay when needed.

🐶 Breeds include Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and Lab/Golden mixes.

By becoming a Puppy Parent, you play a direct role in preparing a dog to serve a veteran and change a life.

This week, the Paws for Purple Hearts San Antonio team had the honor of attending the Warrior Games, where our dogs and trainers spent time connecting with incredible Warriors and their families from across the military community.

Through social therapy and meaningful interactions, our dogs help provide moments of comfort, connection, and stress relied-one friendly greeting at a time. These experiences not only support the well being of veterans and service members, but also help our dogs continue developing the confidence and skills needed to become future assistance dogs.

We are proud to support events like the Warrior Games that celebrate resilience, recovery, and the enduring strength of our military community.

Thank you to all the Warriors, families, volunteers, and supporters who make these moments possible. It is an honor to serve those who have served our nation.

PPH San Antonio is proud to represent our home town in the NBA playoffs!

Today the PPH San Antonio pack stopped by The Rock at La Cantera to show some Spurs pride, snap a photo with everyone’s favorite mascot, Coyote, and grab some Spurs gear!🐺🐾

As the Spurs continue their playoff run, we’re cheering right alongside the rest of San Antonio. We’re proud to be part of a community that always shows up for each other — on and off the court.
