You know that feeling when you learn so much in one sitting that it’s nearly impossible to process it all? Well, that’s how we're feeling after this week’s 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘀 and 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 Panel Discussion. Our panelists had incredible wisdom to share around the topic “𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙉𝙤𝙗𝙤𝙙𝙮 𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝘼𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙃𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.”
Actually turning unused facilities or property into affordable housing is a huge undertaking, so our panelists shared their experience, insight, and wisdom about every phase of a redevelopment project.
𝐻𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑘𝑒𝑦 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑐𝑘 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑢𝑠:
• Most congregations/organizations are not built for the complexity of a redevelopment project, so finding trusted partners who are good at what you aren’t (design, zoning, fundraising, etc.) is crucial
• Start with end users in mind
• It is critical that the project be aligned to the congregation/organization’s mission
• You need a “champion”—someone who has the time/energy/personality to enthusiastically advocate for the project and spur the project forward
