The San Antonio Cactus and Xerophyte Society, SACXS, meets every third Wednesday of each month at the San Antonio Garden Center located at 3310 N. New Braunfels and Funston) or various member's homes. Social time starts at 6:30pm and the regular meeting starts at 7:15pm. Our meetings include informative and educational presentations with cactus and succulent growers from around the country and fro

m our experts in the club. We also have raffles and auctions for plants and/or gardening items at our meetings. Our club initiates and sponsers field events to various nurseries, businesses and ranches in and around San Antonio and throughout Texas to promote the conservation, propagation and cultivation of succulents of all types, friendships and just to have some good fun! All cacti are succlents; not all succulents are cacti. We love them all! Learn more, come join us!

Our May 2026 SACXS meeting was packed with inspiration and celebration.
We welcomed speaker Jerry McNulty, who grew up on the edge of the Mojave Desert and developed a deep respect for native plants and wildlife. Jerry shared insights from decades of propagating thousands of plants from seed, teaching Master Gardener courses, and contributing to community horticulture projects—including his current work with the SACXS Legacy Project.

We also took a moment to celebrate David Feller’s new twins with a well‑deserved cake break.

Jerry McNulty grew up on the outskirts of the Mojave Desert, where he developed a deep appreciation for plants, wildlife, and the importance of protecting their unique habitats. He spent countless nights hiking, backpacking, and sleeping under the stars—experiences that shaped his lifelong passion for the natural world.
Over the years, Jerry has propagated and grown thousands of plants from seed, working with a wide range of species and mastering the art of seed germination and dormancy. He served on the board of the Guadalupe County Master Gardeners and was President in 2020 during the challenges of COVID.
Jerry taught plant propagation for several years as part of the Master Gardener program and has spoken at numerous county and community events on a variety of horticultural topics.
He is currently a member of SACXS and actively contributes to the Legacy Project.
In his spare time, Jerry enjoys long walks on the beach—and tackling the mysteries of complicated seed dormancy.
