Wayward Whiskers Cat Rescue is a 501(c)(3) and approved Animal Care Services rescue in San Antonio, TX. We are an independent rescue that focuses on the special needs, abused and abandoned cats and kittens in the San Antonio area. We were founded in January 2013 and we rely on donations from people like you to keep saving lives. All cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and combo tested, as well as cared for in a home environment until they are adopted into their forever home. 🐾 Meet Aurora! 🐾

Aurora’s journey with Wayward Whiskers began at the city shelter, where she was at risk of euthanasia due to severe weight loss from an unknown dental condition that made eating unbearable, along with a painful upper respiratory infection.

When our team got this gentle senior girl to the vet we discovered she had severe stomatitis. The pain and deterioration of her teeth were so intense that she simply couldn't eat, and the inflammation was even triggering her respiratory issues. Aurora needed a full-mouth dental extraction to finally free her from constant pain.

While her post-surgery recovery was a bit shaky, this resilient gal turned the corner! Aurora now has a brand new lease on life and is rediscovering the joy of food. Learning to navigate meals with no teeth has been a bit of a learning curve for her, but she tackles every bowl with enthusiasm and patience.

Despite everything she's been through, Aurora is an absolute sweetheart who adores people. She is currently looking for her dream forever home to spend her golden years soaking up affection!

Meet Sweet Purrtato! This spicy little diva came to Wayward Whiskers as a tiny kitten with severe congenital deformities in all four of her legs. While her diagnosis meant an uphill battle, Sweet Purrtato refused to let the world view her as anything less than an agile tiger.

Her sass hasn't faded one bit since moving into her forever home! Sweet Purrtato is a queen who demands routine, and she won't hesitate to deliver a stream of indignant meows to her forever mom if anything strays from schedule. Though her two sibling cats constantly try to befriend her, she keeps them in line so everyone knows who truly rules the household.

Don't let the tough exterior fool you, though—she's a total sweetheart at heart. She loves doing zoomies across the room, eating every meal with the absolute passion of a cat who's never seen food before (and warning off any curious sibling who dares glance at her bowl!), and stretching out her tiny body as far as it can go to signal it's time for belly rubs.

Where Are They Meow? Featuring Roger! 👁️✨

When Roger (formerly known to us as Mr. Peanut) was first trapped as a feral kitten, he was in rough shape. He was severely underweight, covered in fleas, fighting internal parasites, and suffering from a severe, untreated eye infection that left his eye painful and badly infected. Scared of humans and terrified of medical care, he had a long road ahead of him.

Once Roger realized that humans meant safety, love, and endless food, everything changed! We were able to perform life-saving surgery to remove his painful eye, and his transformation was nothing short of miraculous. Free from pain, Roger’s true personality blossomed—he became a playful, affectionate boy who adores people, other cats, and even dogs!

Today, Roger is living his absolute best life in Michigan, getting endlessly spoiled by a family that adores him.

Providing emergency surgeries, extended rehabilitation, and safe foster spaces for feral and abused cats like Roger takes a lot of time—and a lot of funding.

When Pogo (formerly known as Eli) first arrived at Wayward Whiskers, his journey was far from easy. Found with traumatic amputations to both of his rear legs, he was facing severe risk of euthanasia and a very uncertain future.

It took nearly a year of specialized medical care, patience, and love for his amputation sites to fully heal. But if you know Pogo, you know he's a vibrant, sassy force of nature who refused to let anything slow him down! He turned down mobility aids and insisted on navigating the world entirely on his own terms—and he’s been thriving ever since in his forever home.

These days, Pogo spends his time keeping up with his kitty siblings. While he likes to pretend he's completely annoyed by them—especially his little brother, Cowboy—we caught him red-handed! Pogo secretly uses Cowboy as a pillow and drifts off to sleep when he thinks no one is watching. 😴❤️

Mozzarella came to Wayward Whiskers from the city shelter, where he was facing the immediate risk of euthanasia due to paralysis in both of his rear legs. We knew this sweet boy deserved every possible chance at a bright future, so we stepped in to bring him into our care.

Despite his mobility challenges, Mozzie is an absolute champion. He navigates the world with ease, zipping up ramps to get onto beds and using his litter box like a total pro. He is the ultimate sweetheart—constantly purring, completely devoted to human affection, and spreading joy to everyone he meets.

At his initial vet visit, X-rays showed no signs of previous injury or clear structural reasons for his paralysis. To give Mozzie the best quality of life moving forward, he needs specialized consultations with neurologists and surgical specialists to pinpoint the root cause and determine if leg amputation will be necessary.

Poor little Miss Frizzle is feeling out of this world after she had her spay surgery, vaccines, and microchip yesterday.

For those of you who don't know Miss Frizzle's story, she was a prime candidate for Wayward Whiskers. Found in rural Texas, covered in ringworm and horribly sick with coccidia, this poor little girl was at risk of euthanasia. A few months later and she is officially ready for adoption!
