Jesus Lives In My City

‘You are like the light that everybody needs in this world. If people build a city on a hill, then other people can see it easily.’ – Matthew 5:14(EasyEnglish)

My friend, there is no doubt that the Bible is the most popular book in the world, and the most powerful statements in the Bible were made by Jesus Christ. One of such sta

tements made by Jesus Christ is that His followers are the light of the world! The ‘like – as’ principle of the bible is being applied by Jesus Christ when he made this statement. Christians are like a city that is set upon the hill which cannot be hidden; if they do good people will see it, and if they do evil people will see it. As a city is populated with different people, so Christians are connected with different types of people from every walk of life in everyday living. It is not about weekly Sunday service in the church, it is about daily living in the real world out there. Like the character of a city is determined by its inhabitants, so is a character determine by who lives in his or her city. Jesus lives in my city is an indication that my city is not only set on a hill, it is also a righteous city! We as the body of Christ should realized that the gentiles may not be able to read the bible, but they can easily read the Christians. The most effective evangelism in the fast moving world is our character and conduct as Christians. Apostle Paul put it like this:
‘The only thing that matters is that you continue to live as good citizens in a manner worthy of the gospel of the Messiah.’ – Philippians 1:27(ISV)
Jesus lives in my city is a practical and effective means of evangelism to win the world to Jesus, and to bring back the backslidden into the Kingdom of God. There is no better way to reveal Jesus Christ in you than your conduct and behavior to your neighbors, your colleagues at work, your business associates, friends and relatives. Your candle cannot shine in the midst of other candles, but in the midst of darkness. In like manner, we as Christians were not called to shine our light in the church, but to the world that is in need of light. The disciples were not called Christians at Antioch because they were praying or singing melodious songs, but because of their Christ – like conducts! Jesus Christ is the center of the gospel, and He is the solution to the world’s crisis! Jesus lives in my city is the template of Jesus’ going about doing good. You too can win your world by showing them that Jesus lives in your city. As every eye is on you; a city set upon the hill that cannot be hidden, you too can prove and say with joy that JESUS LIVES IN MY CITY!

Faith That Doesn't Ask
Daily Devotional

"A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." And He left them and departed. Matthew 16:4

Asking God for a miracle may indicate a lack of faith. Some feel that they demonstrate great faith by continually asking God for miracles. They assume that in every situation God wants to do the spectacular. They presume, for example, that God wants to heal anyone who is sick or provide a miraculous escape from every difficulty they face. Jesus condemned those who insisted that He perform miracles, because He knew their hearts. He recognized that they could not believe Him without constantly undergirding their faith with signs. Their faith was not strong enough to survive without a regular supply of the miraculous. Jesus condemned this lack of faith and left them.
There are times when we prefer the miracle over the miracle worker. God calls this idolatry, and He discouraged it by refusing to provide miracles on demand (Jer. 2:11-13). Sometimes the greatest act of faith is not to ask for a miracle. One of the most amazing statements of faith in the Old Testament came from Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego as they faced the fiery furnace because of their obedience to God. They expressed true faith when they assured king Nebuchadnezzar: “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up” (Dan. 3:17-18). They were confident in God’s ability to deliver them, but they trusted Him so completely that they did not ask to be spared.
Does your faith need miracles to sustain it? Or do you trust God so totally that you can say, “But if not, I will still trust the Lord!?”

Notes:

“Has a nation changed its gods, Which are not gods? But My people have changed their Glory For what does not profit.”
Jeremiah 2:11 NKJV

Jeremiah 2:11 "Exchanging glory" means the people traded their relationship with God for temporal pleasures and false gods to satisfy their lusts, perverse appetites, and personal ambitions. The exchange cost them God's presence.

“If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.”
Daniel 3:17 NKJV

ENCOUNTER Note: Our God Is Able
Dan. 3:17-
A s we face life's challenges, do we believe God is able to meet our every need? Nothing is impossible for Him! He can intervene on our behalf at any moment. The question is: Do we live like we believe this truth?
