Battle of Flowers The Battle of Flowers Association® started what is known today as Fiesta® San Antonio by staging the first Battle of Flowers Parade in 1891.

The Battle of Flowers Association is an organization of women volunteers, recognized on Parade Day by their yellow dresses and yellow hats. They started what is known today as Fiesta® San Antonio by staging the first Battle of Flowers Parade in 1891 as a patriotic celebration to honor the fallen heroes of the Alamo and to commemorate the victory at the Battle of San Jacinto.

As Texas kids head back to school this month, The Battle of Flowers Association wishes you all a happy and safe school year! We are an organization that champions education through our student scholarships, financial support of fine arts programs, teachers, and students, and by providing funds for Texas education through student field trips and experiences. We look forward to supporting students, teachers, and schools throughout the 2026-2027 school year!

It’s National Book Lovers Day! We loved celebrating all things books at this year’s Battle of Flowers Parade with our theme Pages to Possibilities. Schools, businesses, organizations, and the San Antonio community brought the creativity to celebrate books, books, and more books! Each year the Battle of Flowers Band Festival Executive Committee selects three high school bands for the Celebration of Music Awards. These grants support the music programs within the chosen school.

The 2026 Celebration of Music Award Winners are:
First Place: Southwest Legacy High School Southwest Legacy HS
Second Place: Sam Houston High School Sam Houston High School, SAISD
Third Place: Harlan High School (this award will be presented later this month).
