Join us next Friday, August 14th, for our first evening in our August Film Series!

This punk film showcase features a menagerie of artists and voices from the heart of South and Central Tejas, and even straight from the Neza, in the heart of Mexico City. From the impending doom of Garden Valley crooned by way of Legs Diamond to the rebelgurl docu-collage of Pretty Vacant, we examine the Punk Rocker within Tejano culture, an identity at the fringes, like the cool Wallflower with a cigarette dangling from his lip, looking at the show from the back of the room, as well as outside of it, in the case of Alma Punk, with its cramped neighborhoods innercity neighborhoods brilliantly captured on VHS by late punk filmmaker Sarah Minter.

Please note: some films will have mature content, language, and nudity. Attendees under 17 should be accompanied by an adult. Get your $5 ticket with the link in our bio or visit saysi.org/events/august-film-series-night-1/.

Our finalists have been selected, and we’re excited as we prepare for our upcoming Community Art Studio Days with them this weekend. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible partners making this special 150th Anniversary initiative possible.

Thank you to SAY Sí for partnering with us on the 150th Uniting Generations Community Art Initiative and opening your studios to our talented community artists as they transform their selected designs into lasting works of art.

Thank you to OnCore TX for generously donating paint and art supplies that will help bring each artist's vision to life.

Together, we're creating a lasting legacy that celebrates the stories, creativity, and connections that unite generations across Greater San Antonio.

The completed collection will debut at our YMCA 150th Celebration this September before becoming a permanent installation at the new Gordon Hartman Family YMCA, opening in 2027.

And a special thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, City Wide Facility Solutions-San Antonio, for helping bring our Uniting Generations to life as we celebrate 150 years of strengthening our community.

👀 Sneak peek for tomorrow's opening with pictures from yesterday's rehearsal with The Children's Chorus of San Antonio! Come to SAY Sí on Saturday, July 25th, for the opening of THE BEARER OF DANGEROUS TRUTHS.

Our 7 PM viewing is at capacity, but there are still tickets available for the 6 PM viewing. Doors open at 5:30 PM with performances beginning around 6 PM. Get your FREE tickets now at https://bit.ly/BoDT26!

Can't make it on Saturday? We have an encore viewing on Sunday, July 26 from 6 - 9 PM - however - there will not be a live performance for this viewing.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
The Bearer of Dangerous Truths is a large-scale audio/visual immersive installation built by the community, for the community, commemorating all those we have lost in the floods, especially the lives lost in the Kerr County floods in Texas of July 2025.
At the center of the installation is a monumental sculptural wave constructed from reclaimed wood, built by student volunteers from the UTSA School of Architecture + Planning department. The structure is surrounded by a collection of small, hand-crafted objects made by SAY Sí Visual Arts students, documented by the Media Arts student filmmakers.
This special exhibition will also feature a live performance from the Children's Chorus of San Antonio with original music from CASA (Composers Alliance of San Antonio), to transform the raw warehouse space into something powerful, emotional, and unforgettable.

About Aressana "Ari the Poet" Tapia
Aressana Tapia, also known as Ari the Poet, has loved playing with words since she learned her first one. One of her poems was selected for the Young Pegasus poetry competition when she was in middle school, and in eighth grade she created the La Pluma Poetry Club. She has performed at many open mics and writing workshops. She is currently working on a fiction story on Wattpad titled “The Crack in Olympus” centered around a girl who is targeted by the Gods for disrupting the universal order, and forced to help them. Ari will be in tenth grade this August, and wants to start a creative writing club at her school. She is also working on a project tentatively titled The Word Project, where she interviews elderly people and writes poems about them. She also participates in debate, theatre, and Model UN. She believes that poetry is the rare miracle when all pieces of a person (their mind, heart, body, tongue, fingers, and soul) are finally able to speak in unison.

She sincerely believes that writer's block comes from when you disagree with yourself, and the best way to overcome it is to quiet down and listen to the heart which is infinitely wiser than our minds. She understands everyone is a poet already, and they simply need to listen to themselves. With this, she is thrilled to share what she learned when she talked to her heart!
