WEEK 4 — BUILD YOUR COLLEGE LIST

Student Goal: Identify schools worth exploring.

Family Goal: Discuss location, cost, transportation, campus size, and family expectations.

This Week’s Action: Create a preliminary list of approximately 5–10 possibilities.

Consider:

* Four-year universities
* Community colleges
* Trade or technical schools
* Certification programs
* Military academies or service opportunities

Portell Tip: There is no single “perfect” college. Look for schools that fit your goals, finances, personality, and future plans.

WEEK 3 — EXPLORE CAREERS & MAJORS

Student Goal: Learn how your interests might connect to a future career.

Family Goal: Talk about careers the student may not have considered.

This Week’s Action: Research at least three careers and write down:

* Education required
* Typical responsibilities
* Work environment
* Potential salary range
* Related college majors or training programs

Family Goal: Help create one place for important college information.

This Week’s Action: Create a physical binder, digital folder, or both for:

* College information
* Applications
* Scholarships
* Financial aid
* Transcripts
* Recommendation letters
* Essays
* Important passwords
* Deadlines

Student Goal: Think about what you want life after high school to look like.

Family Goal: Have an open conversation about the student’s interests, strengths, goals, and dreams.

This Week’s Action: Write down three possible careers, majors, trades, or fields that interest you.

It is NEVER to early to start thinking about the 2026 Holidays and how you can help those who will be struggling this holiday season.
Today the Portell Foundation donated 7 bags full of stuffed animals for the Blue Cares SAPOA Outreach Blue Santa Christmas. There is no better place to donate to. We look forward to working with San Antonio Police Officers' Association.
