SAFN SER Reunion is essentially done. Great time here in St Augustine. We were happy to host 26 members and 11 guests this year. Starting with a fun Icebreaker, complete with pirates. A National Guard Center tour on Monday, afternoon touring of St Augustine, dinner at "Columbia" restaurant. Business Meeting on Tuesday, followed by more touring and dinner together at Nonna's Trattoria.
A quick run down of the votes for the 2028 Reunion:
Savannah GA - 15
Charleston SC- 14
Huntsville AL - 4
We will put that out to the SER and see if everyone is on the same page.

Greetings from the Southeast Regional Reunion in St Augustine FL! We have a total of 39 at the event, 28 members and 11 guests. Icebreaker was "a real hoot!" as we were visited by a local pirate crew!
More pics to come. This morning was an amazing tour of the National Guard Center and a meticulously maintained Federal Cemetery.

National Women Veterans Recognition Day is observed annually on June 12th. This observance commemorates the signing of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act by President Harry S. October 1983:

AFNC personnel are placed on high alert and heavily involved in aeromedical evacuations during Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada, coordinating the rapid triaging and transport of wounded soldiers back to the United States.

Mid-1980s:

A national civilian nursing shortage triggers severe recruitment and retention hurdles within the military. The AFNC implements aggressive retention campaigns, bonus packages, and advanced graduate education tracks to prevent specialized personnel from leaving for the private sector.

This is an exciting decade for Air Force Nurses.

The 1980s found Air Force nurses serving in a world shaped by Cold War tensions, rapid technological change, and an increasingly global Air Force mission. While large-scale combat deployments were uncommon during much of the decade, Air Force nurses maintained constant readiness to care for service members and their families anywhere in the world.

I can't wait to share more stories with you. Anyone who has served please tell stories! Everyone loves to hear them. Families of those who served can chime in as well.

What did it mean to you?

"The 1980s were a decade of readiness, innovation, and professional growth. Air Force nurses served around the globe, advancing military medicine while caring for service members and their families with skill and compassion. Their commitment helped prepare the Air Force Medical Service for the challenges of the decades ahead."

Still Caring... Still Sharing... Always Remembering.

April 1980:

The Air Force Veterinary Corps is officially disestablished. This restructuring shifted several public health and food safety responsibilities toward the broader Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) framework, allowing the Nurse Corps to tighten its clinical focus.

1982:

The entry standard for accepting new nurses into the Air Force is formally raised, making a bachelor's degree the mandatory minimum requirement. This major policy shift elevates the clinical baseline and professional status of military nursing.
