Coach Delta C Gutierrez Garcia, Head Girls Cross Country and Girls Track and Field

1. One of your biggest accomplishments in your athletic career?

I am from Laredo, Texas where I was A varsity multi sport student athlete all four years with UISD, I ran cross country, played Volleyball, Basketball, and ran Track & Field. My passion was running, I continued to Run Track in College for A year, Later as an Adult I have continued to make running, and exercising a part of life. In My Most recent years i competed in HYROX with an amazing group of adult athletes at Savage Fitness as part of my strength journey. My Greatest Accomplishment in my Athletic Career was not just the medals & titles, it was learning discipline, responsibility, commitment, compassion, and accountability from my parents & coaches. Most Importantly it has helped and led me to be the best & strongest version of myself as A Mom, Sister, Daughter, Coach, and A Stage 3 Breast Cancer Fighter /Survivor of 6 years.

2.Something Memorable?
In Coaching there are so many memorable moments it is hard to name just one, but for me it is the ones that bring my athletes smiling that bring the most joy. Seeing them grow in the classroom, and as a community, running over & jumping for joy after a race PR, Qualifying for Area, Regionals, and State . Seeing their name on the scoreboard and hugging each other after a relay with the time they have been working so hard to achieve, seeing them glow up after clearing the bar at a new height for the season, and coming together before a meet and wishing each other luck arms locked as A team. Knowing that their hard work has earned them A chance at the next level of competition. There are so many moments at A cross Country Meet or Track Meet for me each year and I feel blessed to be a part of those joyous moments year after year . In high school or getting that opportunity to support them when they move on at the next level of competition in college.

3.How long have you been coaching?
My Coaching career started in 1999 as a 6A assistant Track & Field / Cross Country Coach with United ISD through the years working as A Head Middle School Coach. Varsity Cross Country / Track at St Augustine . Later as a Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach/ HEAD TRACK Coach at Lyndon B Johnson in Laredo . I have been in San Antonio for 3 years at the best High School. 6A Head Cross Country /Track & Field Coach at East Central . Coaching now for over 25 years and that drive and passion is still running Strong.

4. What is something you would like to accomplish with the XC/ Track & Field Programs in the next coming year?

I would like to continue to work hard for our student athletes, share my knowledge, passion, and drive, teaching them the importance of good character and leadership. I would like to grow the program for their love of the sport that will continue to help them to see pillars of strength at the highest levels of the State competition.

Thank you so much to the EC Community, Parents, and Awesome EC Athletic Department & Staff . Looking forward to growing our EC programs !!

Our Hornet Softball Coach Welham ๐ŸฅŽ

1. What was one of your best accomplishments in your sports career

Transferring to the Univeristy of Tennessee At Chattanooga from Incarnate Word College to play Division 1 softball.

2. Something memorable that happened in your coaching career

Reaching the State Tournament last year was a tremendous career goal and one of the highlights of my coaching journey. However, our 2023 five-round playoff run, where we defeated four district champions along the way, was an incredible achievement that will forever hold a special place in my heart. The resilience, determination, and belief that team displayed made it a truly unforgettable experience.

3. How long have you been coaching?

Coach Welham began her high school coaching career in Judson Independent School District before continuing her coaching journey at Alamo Heights Independent School District. She just finished her 6th year as the Head Coach here at East Central. Her passion for the game started long before her coaching career, as she spent ten years coaching travel softball alongside her father and family after concluding her own travel ball career with the San Antonio Illusions.

4. Whatโ€™s something you want to accomplish with the softball program in the next few years?

ECSB is working to win the UIL 6A Division 1 State Title, be awarded a Beyond the Game honor & banner and to be the highest ranked team to receive the Grant Teaff Award.

Meet our boys and girls Head Tennis Coach Antonio Ramos!

During my time playing for The University of the Incarnate Word Crusaders from 1997-2002, I certainly had many treasurable moments that I am extremely grateful for and truly blessed to have been a part of something very special.
I will always remember winning the 2002 NCAA Division II Regional Title, which marked our first-ever berth in program history to the NCAA Division II National Championship in Kansas City, MO. That year we finished as the Top 20th team in the nation. Individually, I finished ranked in the top 20th in the Midwest for doubles.

Throughout my coaching career I have also had so many special moments. One special moment for me was back in the spring of 2022, our freshman team won both the Boys and Girls District Championship, nearly sweeping every draw. All those players went on to win multiple district championships throughout their high school careers and all graduated with Academic All-State honors, and 2 summa cm laude grads as well!

I have been coaching tennis now for just over 26 years. In 2007, I earned the highest level achieveable as an Elite Tennis Professional by The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), while I was working as a tennis pro at The Dominion Country Club and competing on the Men's USTA Pro Circuit at the same time.

Our program has consistently won District Championships and has also qualified for the Bi-District and Regional Championships. While, this is always my goal every year, I am very determined to win a varsity fall team tennis District Championship and a Spring-Individual Tennis State Championship. That is something that we have not accomplished just yet.

In 2016, I was awarded the Ike Groce Vision Award from the Texas Tennis Coaches Association (TTCA) for creating community after school & adaptive P.E. tennis programs, and establishing our East Central National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) Summer Camp which still runs today. In 2017, I was awarded the Charlie McClearly Community Service Award from The United States Tennis Association (USTA) for raising just over $47,000 in capital funds and grants from The United States Tennis Association that were used to refurbish the tennis facilities at Legacy & Heritage Middle School. I love being a part of the EC community as I will soon begin my 13th year this August as a special education teacher and the head tennis coach at ECHS. I'm very honored and proud to serve here.

My hope is that our program continues to grow in strength year after year, and to continue to improve our facility for our community to enjoy

Thank you.

Meet our Head Coach for Boys Basketball James Rabon

1. What was one of your best accomplishments in your sports career
I was fortunate to be a part of a regional tournament team two years in a row in high school. Just the excitement that it brings as a player is overwhelming and exciting. Then, I was blessed as an assistant coach to be on the staff for a state tournament team in back to back seasons. That was a whole different type of excitement and stress.

2. Something memorable that happened in your coaching career
As a head coach, three years ago, when we played Steele in a play-in game for the last seed in the playoffs. We prevailed convincingly even after having must wins for three games prior to that one. That gave us the confidence it took to take down a #20 ranked team in SA Reagan and then the #13 ranked B. Johnson in the playoffs to advance us to the third round. Quite a wonderful run with a great group of young men. It was also my first playoff win as a head coach.

3. How long have you been coaching?
I began coaching in 2001 and was an assistant at 5A/6A programs up until I got my dream job here at East Central at the start of 2016. 175 varsity wins and counting.

4. Whatโ€™s something you want to accomplish with the basketball program in the next few years?
Continue to pour into our young men and teaching them the importance of character, discipline, servant leadership, hard work and how everything in life has to be earned. This program will always be known for that along with a basketball team that plays fast, aggressive and will be tough to beat every night.

Thank you to all our parents and community for continuing to trust us with your young men. We are blessed every day to wear the Black & Gold!
