Hello Collins Gardens Neighborhood Association,

My name is Ana Cabrera, and I am a Family Nurse Practitioner and founder of Cabrera Health Center, a nonprofit primary care clinic located in the 78237 community on Castroville Road.

I wanted to introduce myself and reach out to see if there are opportunities for Cabrera Health Center to serve as a healthcare resource for Collins Gardens residents. Our clinic provides primary care services for adults, including preventive care, annual wellness visits, management of chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, weight management services, laboratory services, and health education.

As part of our mission to improve access to healthcare, we offer a Sliding Fee Discount Program for qualifying uninsured and underinsured patients based on household size and income. We currently accept Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans and are continuing to expand our insurance participation. For patients who are uninsured, out-of-network, or do not qualify for the Sliding Fee Discount Program, affordable self-pay office visits are available starting at $90.

Our clinic is located at 2515 Castroville Road, Suite 4, inside Ortiz Medical Center/Ortiz Pharmacy. We are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

I noticed that your organization hosts community meetings and educational events, including the upcoming presentation on elder abuse. I hope to attend and would welcome the opportunity to learn more about the needs of the Collins Gardens community and explore ways that Cabrera Health Center may be able to support local residents.

Thank you for everything your organization does for the neighborhood, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Respectfully,

Ana L. Cabrera, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

📣Bexar County residents are invited to take an active role in shaping our community’s future.

Residents are encouraged to complete the County’s budget survey for fiscal year 2026–27 as Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai and the Commissioners Court begin developing next year’s budget. With nearly $3 billion in funding at stake, your feedback helps guide decisions that impact daily life—from public safety and infrastructure to mental health services and community programs.

The survey is available in English and Spanish. It can be accessed at www.bexar.org/budgetsurvey and will remain open through July 22, 2026.

Please attend and share with your neighbors. Your neighborhoods are likely to be affected by this zoning change.

Attention Neighbors

VP Racing Fuels is in the process of purchasing the Freetail Brewery building at 2000 South Presa. They are requesting that we support a zoning change that would allow them to distill, test, and store fuels on the property.

VP Racing is proposing a repurposing of the existing building into a mixed-use facility that includes a distillery, warehousing, screen printing/embroidery, and enclosed engine dynamometer test cells. They will also experiment in converting distillery by-products into renewable fuels.

Rezoning this property is a serious decision with many implications.

This past Sunday a small group of board members met with the Director of Marketing and the Director of Research and Development. We discussed safety, traffic, and other potential issues. A site plan or any binding conditions of the use on the property have not been submitted. But they will be applying for rezoning soon and hope to close on the purchase of the building within 30 days.

Therefore, the RPNA board believes this zoning change and the unique nature of the business deserve a broader audience where you can hear from VP Racing Fuels and you can ask questions and voice your concerns. Please attend this very important town hall meeting.

"The screwworm doesn't just affect livestock," says the Texas Standard's Michael Marks. "Dogs and cats are just as susceptible and there have been a lot of reports of dogs and cats with screwworm cases in Mexico."

Other pets to watch out for include your birds, rodents, and any other warm-blooded critters, especially if you are located in South Texas or your pet spends time outdoors.
