Lavaca Neighborhood Association This is the official page for the Lavaca Neighborhood Association. Lavaca is the oldest existing nei The January meeting is our annual potluck.

Lavaca has a very active neighborhood association that focuses attention on important issues and serves as a conduit for the neighborhood to City agencies. The association also sponsors several events during the year. General association meetings take place on the third Tuesday of every other

🚧 Community Construction Update – St. Mary’s & Carolina Streets 🚧

We want to share an important update from VIA regarding the current and upcoming construction activity near St. Mary’s St. and Carolina St.

🔹 Current Work Underway: Utility Relocation
VIA’s Green Line contractor is currently relocating a high-pressure gas main between Playmoor St. and W. Carolina St. This work is preparing Playmoor St. to serve as a future detour route. Lane closures in the area are expected to remain in place until major intersection construction begins, depending on weather and site conditions.

🔹 Upcoming Major Construction
📅 Beginning the evening of May 28, 2026
Construction will begin at the Eagleland & Carolina intersection following the end of the school term. This phase will include full intersection work and activation of the official detour route via Playmoor St.

🚨 Traffic Alert for Southtown Residents During Graduation Events 🚨

Graduation events at the Alamodome are scheduled from May 16 – June 1, 2026, so residents should expect increased traffic and road closures around the neighborhood during this time.

If you’re trying to enter Lavaca from Florida while heading northbound on I-37 and roads are blocked:

➡️ Pull up to the stop sign on Carolina (east of I-37)
➡️ Turn on your hazard lights — this signals to officers that you live in Lavaca
➡️ Officers will move the barricade so you can proceed to the stop sign at Florida and turn left into the neighborhood

Please drive carefully, allow extra time, and be patient with traffic officers and visitors attending graduation events.

Big thanks to Board Member Selsa Adham Gonzalez for helping bring a fresh new look to our neighborhood signs! 👏🤎

You may notice our neighborhood signs have changed from blue to brown — now proudly highlighting that we are San Antonio’s oldest residential neighborhood! It’s a small change with a big reminder of the history and character that makes our community so special.
