Empower House

Empower House Transforming Communities through Women and Girls. Our programs reach over 3,500 women, girls and families each year.

Empower House SA (formerly The Martinez Street Women’s Center) is in its 22nd year serving San Antonio’s East, West, and South community. Our Community Health Promotora Program strengthens families by increasing access to preventative health services, facilitating referrals to basic needs resources and enhancing the knowledge and awareness of health issues in our community. Through our Girl Zone

Program (after school sessions and Summer Camp) we enhance academic potential, nurture high self-esteem, and support the healthy development of girls age 11-18. We provide critical services, including a FREE Breast Cancer Clinic and FREE after school and summer camp for low-income families in San Antonio’s East and South East community.

When was the last time you truly rested? 🌊
This June 10, we're gathering virtually for a Restorative Circle on Wellness & Burnout — because pouring from an empty cup isn't sustainable, and you don't have to figure it out alone.

For a kid in our community, one closed door can change everything. A camp they can’t afford. A tutoring session that’s just out of reach. A program that fills up before they get the chance.

At Empower House, our job is to make sure access is never the thing that holds a young person back.

In 2025, we served 308 young people through Empower Youth — and reached 426 across all our programs. We delivered 153 tutoring sessions, sent 44 kids to camp, and put $4,784 in direct aid directly toward removing the barriers standing between a young person and their potential.

Today we’re launching Access Means Everything — a campaign built on a simple belief: every kid deserves the chance to dream bigger and reach further, no matter what door is in front of them.

Come see what access can do

Meet Yanice — known as YaYa La Boriqua — a poet and author born on the island of Puerto Rico, whose family migrated to South Texas. Today, she proudly calls San Antonio home. 🇵🇷
In this powerful excerpt from her poem “Between Zero and Screw You Calories,” YaYa speaks to the strength she found in her mother — and how that strength echoes through generations of women leading households, holding families together, and carrying everything in between.
Her words are raw. Her voice is captivating. And her message is one every woman deserves to hear. ✨
Press play and let her words sit with you.
