PAST PATIENT UPDATE: Nearly 20 years after her life-saving HeartGift surgery, Christy reached out to us to share her latest news. ❤️🎁

When she was 7, Christy traveled from Honduras to the US to treat the four defects in her heart surgically. Now married with a precious daughter of her own, her journey is a powerful reminder of the ripple effect of healing. Her story doesn’t just end with her … it continues with the life she’s built and the family she’s created. From being a little girl seeking care, to having a little girl to be able to care for.

KIDS HELPING KIDS! ❤️

Before heading home to Honduras, 5-year-old HeartGift patient Sterling got to visit a 1st grade classroom at Bethke Elementary in Katy Independent School District where the students who helped fund his life-saving care got to meet him in person.

Led by teacher Gabriela Chapman, these students didn’t just learn about kindness—they lived it. Through their fundraising and donation efforts, they played a real role in helping save Sterling’s life, and this moment brought that impact full circle.

From welcome signs to building Legos together, the room was filled with joy, connection, and a powerful realization: these children’s actions made a difference in the life of a child just like them! This is what happens when compassion turns into action ... and kids see the impact firsthand.

4-year-old Rayan recently sent a message to HeartGift Houston's executive Director Janna Altmann thanking her and HeartGift for his healthy heart. ❤️

After receiving life-saving treatment for Tetralogy of Fallot, a combination of four defects in his tiny heart, in January 2026, he’s now back home in Haiti and thriving. Hearing his voice full of gratitude was a powerful reminder of what this work makes possible. Today, Rayan is simply being a kid—and that’s everything.

Ariana’s newly mended heart is treating her well … and you can see it in that smile of hers.

Her bright spirit, along with her new favorite stuffed animal, helped carry her through this tough journey. Now, her new and healthier story is just beginning.

She touched the hearts of every person she met in the hospital, making goodbyes truly bittersweet. We may leave a lasting impact on these children, but we often don’t realize the incredible impact they leave on all of us.

There’s something so special about watching a young girl face something so difficult and still leave a trail of positivity behind her.

It has been an honor for HeartGift and our supporters to be part of your story, Ariana. We can’t wait for you to show off that healthy heart back home in Honduras!

Surgery day! ❤️‍🩹

Thiago began his day with smiles and excitement, ready to mend the hole in his heart. The two-year-old from Honduras had a smile that said, “No more ASD!” His joy really shone when he saw the toy police car waiting for him. Who knew one of the biggest days of his life could also be such a blast? 🚓

It has been such a gift to witness his strength and bravery, which is clearly genetic after meeting his mother. We are so thankful to everyone who played a part in saving Thiago’s life. We are excited for the remainder of his healing journey! ❤️🎁
