You'll hear from Charles “Chuck” Marohn, the founder and president of Strong Towns and the bestselling author of “Escaping the Housing Trap: The Strong Towns Response to the Housing Crisis.”

A land use planner and civil engineer with decades of experience, Marohn is a leading national voice on helping cities become stronger, more prosperous, and more responsive to the needs of their residents.

Marohn will discuss the roots of the housing crisis that pervades North American cities, which are prone to a never-ending cycle of boom and bust. He will share an alternative vision of a housing ecosystem that is developed incrementally to create a more resilient community.

TONIGHT -- Join the San Antonio Area Foundation for a FREE community screening of No Place to Grow Old, a compelling documentary that shares the stories, experiences, and resilience of older adults facing housing instability.

In San Antonio, older adults are among the fastest-growing groups experiencing housing instability and homelessness. Thrive Vecindad is already earning recognition!

Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones joined us on the porch of one of the future El Jardín de Nuestra Vecindad casitas to recognize Able City ’s 2026 AIA San Antonio People + Place Award for the project’s design.

Able City’s thoughtful community engagement helped shape Thrive Youth Center's new transitional housing project alongside the LGBTQ+ residents it is designed to serve. That kind of listening and co-creation is the foundation of successful housing and strong neighborhoods.

And thank you, Councilwoman (and SAHT board member) Teri Castillo, your advocacy makes this project possible.

We are excited to welcome Tyshima Alexander to the SAHT team!

Tyshima oversees the full lifecycle of solicitations and contracts, including evaluation, compliance, and vendor performance while providing recommendations to leadership to support best-value procurement decisions.

Before joining SAHT, Tyshima spent 19 years with NuStar Energy, where she advanced through multiple procurement and supply chain leadership roles. Tyshima holds a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership from Webster University and is also a licensed Realtor.
