It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John Kenny, who served as the Executive Director of the San Antonio Housing Trust from 2000 to 2019.
Before his leadership at the Trust—a City of San Antonio–created nonprofit dedicated to affordable housing—Mr. Kenny was an accomplished residential developer. But more importantly, he was a man of integrity and compassion.
Under his guidance, the organization entered a transformative era of collaboration with the local development community, resulting in the creation of more than 6,500 affordable homes. John’s foresight in championing public-private partnerships not only expanded housing opportunities, but also established a sustainable model that continues to support local housing nonprofits and initiatives today.
While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the work we continue each day. Because of the path John helped build, thousands of families, seniors, veterans, and individuals on the journey out of homelessness have a safe, stable, and dignified place to call home.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
