Today, on a fairly mild Sunday, Pastor Everett Bell and family and friends had a busy day as they served lunch to our guests Under the Bridge. Pastor Bell and his group brought 300 hot dogs with assorted snacks, potato chips, bottled water and lemonade. The total number of guests was probably a little smaller than usual today, approximately 120. That just meant there were a lot of repeat customers though and no one went away hungry.

Next Sunday Mike Specia and friends will prepare and serve the Sunday lunch.

Joseph Millhouse was in charge of bringing lunch to our guests Under the Bridge today. To help him in his efforts he brought volunteers from the Van Courtlandt Social Club and young ladies from the Black Debutants of San Antonio. We didn't get an exact count of the number of guests, but it appeared to be our usual group of approximately 150 more or less. Joseph and his volunteers brought spaghetti and meat sauce, a tossed salad, water and lemonade.

Today Michael Jenson and friends prepared and served the Sunday lunch Under the Bridge. Michael's report follows:

"Again, we served meatloaf, green beans, corn, salad, bread, tea and water. Another party brought down some snack bags with apples and granola chips. We counted 183 plates."

The other party Michael referred to above is one of our newer volunteers, Tanya Armenta. She came for her first time to serve and brought with her the snacks and several of her family and friends. Tanya wants to put a group together and jin the rotation of volunteer groups that serve on Sunday.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Today Mike Holland and family and friends had a busy day. His report follows:

"We had a warm but good day downtown. We quickly gave out 150 bags containing Kiolbassa sausage wraps, bananas, oranges, chips, cookies, crackers, PPJ sandwiches and hardboiled eggs. We gave out a lot of bottled water and we had tea and lemonade. We took a bunch of new hats down there (very reasonably priced but decent quality ) and they were extremely popular."

Next Sunday Michael Jenson and friends will prepare and serve the Sunday meal.

Bill and Pam Holler and friends had the duty today and it went off very well. Two brand new volunteers made their first appearance and both say they are looking forward to coming back to serve again. Thanks to Ryan and to Laura, we look forward to seeing them soon.

We brought fourteen party size lasagnas, six gallons of green beans with bacon, onions and garlic pieces, three hundred cookies and fifteen gallons of cold lemonade and water. Every last bit of it was consumed by our guests. The recent scare with lettuce containing a diarrhea causing parasite convinced us not to have a salad this week, but everyone was well fed and no one complained about missing their salad. All in all, it was a good day.

Greetings everyone, I'm a little late but nevertheless here I am. Yesterday on what was reported to be a potentially rainy day Ellen Ott and her crew of volunteers took their turn at preparing and serving lunch to some of San Antonio's neediest folks. The following report is from Ellen:

"Served well over a 100 folks on Sunday ham and cheese sandwiches, potato salad and tossed green salad, lemonade and water. There were PB and J sandwiches and bottled water for them to take. it was an appreciative crowd with no problems.

For the first time in a very long time, the team leader for this week was unable to provide food and volunteers for our Sunday lunch. He had an unavoidable family problem and just couldn't get it done. We are all volunteers at this organization and sometimes life interferes with our plans. We were able to find a Pizza Hut that opened early and they were happy to sell us sixteen large pizzas ro start their day.

Our guests Under the Bridge were also happy to have pizza on this 4th of July weekend so it all worked out at the end of the day. We also served a jillion cookies of different types and ice cold water and lemonade. It was a somewhat smaller crowd than usual, approximately 100 to 120 but that just meant they got more pizza. Every last slice was taken.

Next week should go a little more smoothly when Ellen Ott takes her turn as team leader.

Another bright, sunny day Under the Bridge. Mike Specia and friends served 200 meals of sausage wraps, beans, rice, bananas and cookies. They also had bottled water for the guests which allows them to have a drink to go if so desired and Mike says that our of the 200 meals there were some seconds. So as usual that number is an educated guess. There were one or two other groups volunteers feeding in the area at the same time so it looks like some or most everybody was well fed today.

Next week Jason Perez and friends will prepare and serve the noon meal.

I know the first day of summer has not arrived but it sure felt like it Under the Bridge today as Zach Henderson and family served lunch to approximately 140 guests. Each guest received two hot dogs with chili, the condiment of their choice, a bag of chips and ice cold lemonade or water.

For the first time ever one of our guests asked me what is the secret of longevity. I had never considered that question before but my knee jerk response was to tell him "don't die". He couldn't stop laughing. Maybe I've been doing this too long.

Today Under the Bridge, we were prepared for a rainy miserable day but instead were greeted with a sunny, muggy day. It all worked out as Pastor Everett Bell and his family, friends and parishioners served approximately 150 plates of home cooked rice and beans with bacon and ground meat to some very satisfied guests.

Next week Rodney Bremby and Zach Henderson and friends will prepare and serve the Sunday lunch.
