Today Michael Jenson and enough volunteers to form a baseball team, brought Michael's famous meatloaf, with green beans, corn, salad, tea and water. Michael says they served 136 hungry folk. I think we had some no shows today because of the pending weather conditions. Faint hearts don't get meatloaf.

Next week Pam and Bill Holler and friends will prepare and serve the Sunday meal.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Today Mike Holland and friends and family took their turn providing lunch for some of San Antonio's neediest residents. Mike sent in the following report:

"Hi Bill - well it was a warm but good day downtown. The line looked big at first but in the end we probably fed about 120-125 folks. We served Kiolbassa sausage wraps with chips, crackers, hardboiled eggs, bananas, oranges, scratch made cookies and slim Jim’s. Lots of soda waters, bottled water, lemonade and tea was served as well."

Greetings and salutations to one and all!

It was another busy day Under the Bridge today as Pastor Everett Bell and his family and friends served the Sunday meal to some of San Antonio's neediest folks. Pastor Bell and his group brought 300 hotdogs and a variety of chips and cold drinks. They started early but at 10:30 the line was already down the block and folks were ready to eat. It was nearly noon when we closed up everything and stragglers were still coming looking for a meal.

Next week Mike Holland and friends will take their turn providing the Sunday meal Under the Bridge.

Yesterday I was unable to attend the serving of our weekly meal Under the Bridge, but Ellen Ott sent in the following report on the activities:

"It didn't seem there were that many folks today.
We managed to distribute 126 sandwiches - 96 ham
and cheese and 30 pb&j. Had other stuff left...
cookies, peanut butter crackers, protein bars and
water."

Some of you may recall that Ellen is the lady that began this feeding organization back in July 1988 and is still volunteering with us on a regular basis.

Next Sunday Pastor Everett Bell and his famil and friends will serve the Sunday lunch.

Today in her first outing as our newest team leader, Tanya Armenta did a great job. Tanya and her husband along with their two children and several friends served a shredded chicken dish with rice and beans which she says was her mother's recipe and prepared by her mother the 'chef" for the day. l at first thought that it was going to be a slow day as the number of guests in line was fairly small. Later though the line continued to grow and it became difficult to keep track of how many were fed. Every morsel of food was eventually served though and no one went hungry.

Today, due largely to a breakdown in communications, 160 or so guests Under the Bridge had to settle for fresh pizza from the Pizza Hut on Thousand Oaks. We served them eighteen large pizzas, fresh salad, pastries from Broadway Daily Bread, mandarin oranges, lemonade and iced water. Because of the power outage in the northeast section of San Antonio Broadway Daily Bread's store had to close over the weekend and rather than throw out their product, they brought it to us.

Next week Tanya Armenta and family and parishioners will prepare and serve the Sunday meal.

Today Mike Specia and about a dozen volunteers from his church, his rotary club and the Knights of Columbus joined together Under the Bridge to serve a hot meal to some of San Antonio's neediest residents. Mike says that they served 200 plates of food and that they ran out of nearly everything. The guests enjoyed sausage wraps, bananas, cookies, beans, rice and bottled water. They also gave away thirty breakfast tacos early in the process.

Next week the Rotary Club at the Pearl will prepare and serve the Sunday lunch.

Today, on a fairly mild Sunday, Pastor Everett Bell and family and friends had a busy day as they served lunch to our guests Under the Bridge. Pastor Bell and his group brought 300 hot dogs with assorted snacks, potato chips, bottled water and lemonade. The total number of guests was probably a little smaller than usual today, approximately 120. That just meant there were a lot of repeat customers though and no one went away hungry.

Next Sunday Mike Specia and friends will prepare and serve the Sunday lunch.

Joseph Millhouse was in charge of bringing lunch to our guests Under the Bridge today. To help him in his efforts he brought volunteers from the Van Courtlandt Social Club and young ladies from the Black Debutants of San Antonio. We didn't get an exact count of the number of guests, but it appeared to be our usual group of approximately 150 more or less. Joseph and his volunteers brought spaghetti and meat sauce, a tossed salad, water and lemonade.

Today Michael Jenson and friends prepared and served the Sunday lunch Under the Bridge. Michael's report follows:

"Again, we served meatloaf, green beans, corn, salad, bread, tea and water. Another party brought down some snack bags with apples and granola chips. We counted 183 plates."

The other party Michael referred to above is one of our newer volunteers, Tanya Armenta. She came for her first time to serve and brought with her the snacks and several of her family and friends. Tanya wants to put a group together and jin the rotation of volunteer groups that serve on Sunday.
