06/12/2026

An unusually organized collection of Scouts arrived at Bear Creek Scout Camp.

They learned new skills.
They explored the outdoors.
They consumed astonishing quantities of bug spray.

Most importantly, they discovered that great adventures are best shared with friends.

🚂 A Hidden Gem in San Antonio Keeps Growing!

Our scout, Rowan, visited the Texas Transportation Museum today to gain inspiration for her Eagle project.

Founded in 1964, the museum preserves San Antonio’s transportation history through historic locomotives, railcars, antique vehicles, model railroads, and train rides on the Longhorn & Western Railroad.

Recently, the museum has expanded to include a growing collection of buses and has welcomed the Ansteorran Longship Association, whose Viking-style longboat and educational programs will add another fascinating chapter to the story of transportation through the ages.

For scouts, the museum is a valued community partner. Over the years, more than 30 Eagle Scout projects have been completed here. Young leaders have been able to align their passion and interest to service projects that have improved exhibits, grounds, and visitor experiences. Their volunteers are always welcoming and supportive.

If you haven’t visited recently, it’s worth a trip. You may be surprised by how much there is to see!

🎓 🎉Senior Spotlight 🎉🎓

We celebrate Matthew Ludy today! He is graduating from Brandeis High School and has built an impressive path through both academics and Scouting.

During high school, Matt played the tuba in the Brandeis Marching Band and completed a four-year Auto Mechanics program, earning a professional certification in brake systems diagnostics and repair.

Outside the classroom, Matt dedicated countless hours to Scouting leadership and service, developing skills that have shaped both his character and future goals.

Matt’s favorite Scouting memories include climbing to the peak of Mount Baldy at Philmont Scout Ranch with his patrol mates and serving as a staff member at Bear Creek Scout Camp the past 4 summers.

For his Eagle Scout project, Matt combined his love of trains and childhood memories at the Texas Transportation Museum by building an outdoor train table for children to enjoy. His goal was to create something interactive; giving kids a chance to play, explore, and experience the excitement of trains hands-on.

He is an active member of Venture Crew 324 and the Order of the Arrow, attending the National Order of the Arrow Conference in 2024 and serving as an Elangomat four times to guide newly inducted Arrowmen through their Ordeal experience.

Matt completed National Youth Leadership Training and later returned to staff the course as a Troop Guide. He recently taught his fellow arrowmen basic auto maintenance at the annual Conclave.

This fall, Matt will attend St. Philip’s College to pursue his associate’s degree and begin part-time work in an automotive shop.

Congratulations, Matt! We are proud of all you’ve accomplished and excited to see where the road ahead takes you.

Today we celebrate Douglas Jensen and his graduation from Johnson High school!

Douglas marched trombone in the Johnson Band, joined the JV wrestling team, welded, and worked as a Little League Baseball umpire and now graduates Cum Laude.

He discovered his love for welding and working with his hands at Camp Hale, Oklahoma, during a summer Camp merit Badge class. He quickly added a welding class as his elective at the CTECH institute, where he learned to perfect his craft.

Douglas has always pursued helping others. He loves serving his church congregation and completed his Eagle Scout Project by installing 8 aluminium benches to create an outdoor religious classroom for his local Summerglen Hills ward family at the Indian Springs meeting house.

Douglas loves the outdoors is an avid hunter and fisherman. Every spare moment he can find, he will be on the water with a fishing pole or out in the brush looking for game. He became a Certified Angler Instructor, which allows him to teach the next generations to love fishing too!. He loved his Philmont and National Jamboree scouting experiences and hopes to keep paving new trails along his journey.

This fall he will serve a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His 2-year service of his church is a reflection of his devotion and love to all God's children.

Once completed, he plans to attend trade school for Welding and an obtain a degree at Utah State University in Welding Engineering.

He received the Utah State University Merit Scholarship along with the Southern Utah University Legacy Merit Scholarship. Both for Engineering.

We are proud of the bright, kind, and helpful Young Man Douglas has become. He will do amazing things for the world!

Please join us in celebrating Benjamin “Benny” Bhogte on his graduation from Reagan High School.

Benny joined Scouts in the spring of 2023 during his freshman year at Reagan High School, where he was also an active member of the Reagan Band. That same year, he and his father joined the San Antonio Community Wind Ensemble, playing alto saxophone side-by-side in public concerts for two years.

Benny quickly advanced in Scouting after participating in Bear Creek Summer Camp’s Ranger Program in 2023. He continued challenging himself academically as well, participating in UTSA’s Pre-Freshman Engineering Program (PREP) during the summers of 2024 and 2025.

In December 2025, Winter Camp at Lost Pines helped Benny complete his final merit badges on his journey to Eagle Scout.

Benny has always loved building and designing; from Legos and animation to custom creative projects. In 2024, he earned Student’s Choice for Best Stop-Motion Animation at Reagan High School’s Film Fest. His love for animals and creativity came together in his Eagle Scout project, where he designed and built two outdoor cat houses for the Animal Defense League’s Paul Jolly Center.

This fall, Benny will attend The University of Texas at San Antonio, where he has earned a Distinguished Presidential Scholarship and been accepted into the Honors College. He plans to study mechanical engineering.

Today we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As Scouts, we learn the values of duty, service, sacrifice, and citizenship, values demonstrated by those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As we gather with loved ones this holiday, may we also hold space for remembrance and gratitude for those whose sacrifice made these moments possible.

From all of us at Troop 226, thank you to our fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy forward.

🎓🎉Senior Spotlight 🎓🎉

Today troop 226 celebrates Issa Garmoe.

Issa’s love for animal health nudged her beyond a traditional STEM track and into NEISD’s Agricultural Science Magnet Program, where she graduated cm laude. She completed 13 college-level courses before earning her diploma and secured three state-recognized certificates; Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science; and Floral Design, evidence of both rigor and range.

In the Lamb Barn, Issa raised her treasured lamb, Dolly, closing their season with a handful of FFA ribbons, including a proud Second Place.

For her Eagle Scout project, she partnered with the Madison High School education team to design and build a mobile equipment cart that improved the barn’s health and safety; practical, thoughtful, and built to last.

Issa has been accepted into Angelo State’s highly competitive Honors Program, she will pursue a combined BS/MS in Biology, with her sights set on medical school and a future as a pathologist.
Issa hopes to one day cure the next wave of zoonotic diseases.

We are so excited for her next Chapter! Congrats!

🎓⚜️ Senior Spotlight 🎓⚜️

Today we celebrate Walter Bell, another outstanding graduating senior!

Walter will graduate Summa Cum Laude from Johnson High School on May 24, 2026, and this fall he will begin an exciting new chapter at The University of Texas at Austin, where he plans to major in Biomedical Engineering on the pre-med track.

Walter’s goal is to become a physician specializing in emergency medicine, a calling that reflects his compassion for others.

As a Scout, Walter used those same qualities of service and leadership to complete his Eagle Scout project benefiting CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital. He created “Adventures on Wheels,” a pediatric mobile library designed to bring books and joy directly to young patients and families throughout the hospital.

We are incredibly proud of the young man he has become and cannot wait to see all he accomplishes in the years ahead.

Congratulations, Walter!
